The GRANNY ARTFUL Challenge Stakes

Welcome to the Granny Artful Challenge Stakes where only a few of the horses are grannies.   The rest are grannies to be but lets not take away from some of the class which has been fielded here.  Lets hope for a good close exciting race here…

Post 1:             5/1 WEALTH OF NATIONS  (lasthope)

Covered this filly last time she ran in the Sabian Handicap G3 as has half this field mind you.  Are they all traveling together from Norway?  I said last time that she would probably struggle at the G3 level and struggle she did. Here is a different proposition though and her odds suggest that as well.  Place chance here I fancy as long as she gets a good run.

Post 2:             13/1 DIVING DOLPHIN(IRE) (jadolphin)

Last time I looked dolphins weren’t allowed to run against horses but here you are. Thinking about it didn’t know dolphins could run at all but looking at this ones racing history suggests otherwise. Great race last time out with an impressive win in allowance company by over 2 lengths.  Fantastic odds really even if she is jumping up a level.  Worth putting some cash on her I reckon.

Post 3:             5/1 AENEA (richardobe)

Also ran in the Sabian Handicap finishing one better than Wealth of Nations.  Still a ways off the pace though in that race.  Would have to think she would be pushing for a place here.  She has performed well at Stakes level previously and that experience wont go astray here.  Good chance of a place if not a win.

Post 4:             5/1 S.S. ESS ESS (wagkombi)

Lots of S’s in this 5yo mare. Not sure what that means other than there are lots of s’s.  31 races with 7 wins including a second at Stakes level 3 starts back means this mare is another very good chance of making a top 3 finish.  Close race all up this one isn’t it?

Post 5:             15/1 SEPTEMBER(AUS) (springbred)

Another Sabian Handicap runner but failed miserably that time out. That’s rather unfortunate especially as she is Aussie registered but made up for that run last time out  with a 4th place finish at the Jake’s LD Challenge G3. The step back in distance certainly helped and at 15/1 is a rather easy way of making some good cash if she can put in another good run like that.

Post 6:             5/2 GONE GOLFING   (callaway)

The old lady of the race entrants here, golfing in her old age has been taking up more and more of her time. Still, she has proved she can still run and is favourite for this race with the bookies.  Probably too short a distance for her and I would suggest a place finish here today.

Post 7:             18/1 COUNTY KILDARE(IRE) (sktstable)

Has been off an on in allowance races of late and the same has applied to her last 2 runs at Stakes level with a 3rd place finish followed by a disappointing ninth place after that.  But that’s good news folks because that means she is on the up side this time out.  That means at odds of 18/1 I am going to be making a whack of money on this one.  Upset win here possibly?

Post 8:             4/1 BERRY BASKET (hillhouse)

Last time out in the Sabian Handicap, trainer hillhouse forgot to take out all the berries in her basket which resulted in a disastrous performance for her and the trainer.  This time though there wont be any excuses and at 4/1 the bookies are certainly banking on her to put in a good showing here.  Place and possible win.

Post 9:             6/1 MISWAKI APPROWAL (brad)

Has been putting in average to good solid runs in allowance company when the trainer decided enough was enough and lets have a go at the Stakes level.  Surprise surprise a speed of 103 was the go with a good solid win over 9.5f.  Win here today is my guess.
