The Mexico GradeII for 3 year olds
The Mexico Stakes Grade II for all horses 3 years old over one mile and three sixteenths on the fast dirt sees a field of 12 hopefuls front up to do battle. This one has to say is a very ordinary bunch with only two colts ranked in the top 20 appearing and some of the others may be facing an uphill battle to get among the prizemoney .
From gate 1 is Krisom(Red Ransom x Kris s) at 17/1 and trained by funster. This colt is 1 from 7 and is returning to the dirt where he won his maiden over 9.5 two starts back. He certainly appears to prefer the dirt but this race is a huge leap in class for him and may need more time to win in this class.
At 9/1 is Mister Migrane (Pulpit x Indian Ridge) and trained by unclebucky and is 1 from 9 at this stage of his career. He is yet to win on the dirt however his performances have been better on this surface. Two starts back ran a 91 to get third in a Stakes over 8.5 on the dirt and was than switched back to turf where he ran an 80 in a Stakes to also get third at his first start as a 3 year old. Provided his trainer decides to leave him on the dirt for awhile than he could be an improver but this is real step up for him and he will need to lift on his 2 year old form to be a danger here.
Punch Drunk T (Two Punch x Danehill ) is a 3year old filly ranked 54 and is at 5/1 with xtchamps the trainer. Her record now stands at 4 from 10 and since turning 3 has gone on improving. She won 2 Stakes in a row than faltered in her last two runs in Grde3 races. She was on the pace at her latest run but got run over at the finish and this race is longer and it may be a concern that a couple of these are capable of coming home over the top of her.
Woodlawn (Woodman x Unfuwain ) and trained by topicount is at 17/1 and his record stands at 2 from 5. He won an Allowance over 9 at his first start as a 3 year old and that followed his maiden win over 8.5 in his last start as a 2 year old. This is another colt who is jumping up in class and it is hard to see him making it three in row in this.
Virtuosa (Cryptoclearance x El Prado) trained by super7 is ranked 15 in this division and is showing odds of 9/2. The winner of 3 from 8, he is coming off a very good Stakes win over 9 at his his first outing as a 3 year old. His last start as a 2 year old resulted in a barnstorming third in a Grade I and prior to that ran on well for a fifth in the Breeders Bowl. This bloke has shown his class and has carried it on as a 3 year old and he will be very hard to beat here.
Fuzzy Magic(Kingmambo x
Commanche Nation (War Chant x Gone West) and trained by kyclocker8 and is at 8/1 with his record now showing 2 from 7. He won a Stakes on the turf at his last run as a 2 year old and than as a 3 year old he finished seconded in a Stakes also on the turf. He won his maiden on dirt six runs back than collected a seconded in a Stakes but than stumbled in a Grde 3 and was than switched back to the grass and it will be interesting to see how he handles the dirt once again.
In Perfect Stride (Pleasantly Perfect x Seeking The Gold) and is trained by dixiedotco and is at 7/1 and his record is 2 from 6. He has had two runs since turning three getting a seconded at his most recent run and a third prior to that both were at Stakes level. His two wins were at Allowance level and though getting closer is still to win at Stakes or Grded event. He has shown consistency and just needs to take that extra step to start winning these class of races.
The Great Wells ( Albert The Great x
Cheiron(IRE) ( El Prado x Mr. Prospector) and trained by super 26 and at odds of 12/1 and his record is 2 from 7. Winner of an Allowance over 8.5 at his last run as a two year old and than he faded slightly to get fourth in a Stakes at his only run as a three year old over 8.5. This colt is another who will have to lift his times to be competitive at this class but we all know that on turning 3 some horses to improve remarkably whilst some crack 2 year olds do not go on with it.
Foundation (Empire Maker x Miswaki) and trained by chops27 and is at 9/1 and has 2 from 3 at this stage of his career. He had two starts at two for a win and a seconded and than stepped out on turning 3 to easily win an Allowance over the mile. This is a major step up in class but he looks as though he could be a very good colt and even if he fails here he should go on to bigger and better races.
