19 Vie For the Steve Cauthen

Well, Sim-world it’s time for the big event: the Equinics!  Today, we come to you from Vermont where there is a full card of Equinics races.  The thirteenth race on today’s Vermont card is the Steve Cauthen a Grade One stakes for fillies and mares, 4 years old and up, run over a mile and a half on a Fast Dirt track.  We have a field of 19 beginning their parade to the starting gate, so let’s see who showed up to bring about Equinics glory…

Starting on the rail, in PP1, we have #24233 Berenguela, a 4 year old chestnut filly owned by the fernando stable.  She is by Tale of the Cat based on Carby’s King (Seeking the Gold x In Reality) and is 23/6-5-1 lifetime.  This filly will be making her first start at this distance of a mile and a half, even though she has been running well in shorter routes, as she won the 9fl G3 Annie Oakley two races back.  If she can go the distance, she could be a contender.  She is the favorite today, off at odds of 6/1 and has jockey B. Child in the irons.

Next up, breaking from PP2, we have #60687 God of War, a 4 year old simsters1 trained brown filly.  She is by Storm Cat out of a Seattle Slew mare and is 13/4-2-0 lifetime.  This filly has started at this distance a few times, and won at this distance last time out.  However, her speed numbers haven’t been as good as some of the other fillies in this race, but if she can pick it up a bit, she should be another one to watch for in this race.  She is at odds of 22/1 and is being ridden by V. Gardner.

Then, starting in PP3, is #4270 Cobra Mystique.  This chestnut 4 year old filly is a sabbath5 trainee, sired by Cobra King out of Xxxtravagant Lady (Lear Fan x Caerleon), and is 22/4-1-5 lifetime.  This big filly has been a very solid allowance horse so far in her career, but she has had only one stakes run, which was at this distance where she finished third.  However, considering some of the other runners in this race, she is going to have a tough run ahead of her.  She is also off at odds of 22/1 and has jockey P. Cadigan in the saddle.

Coming up next, in PP4, we have #49711 The Divorce, a 4 year old roan filly owned/trained by the jarrod2 stable.  The Divorce is by Unbridled’s Song out of a Gone West bred mare, and is 21/1-5-4 lifetime.  This filly has been fairly consistent in her longer route races, despite a disappointing 10th place finish last time out, and she finished second in the GSR Oaks a couple months ago.  She has gone this distance before with decent results, but some of her speeds have not been as high as some of the others in this race, but despite that, this #22 ranked long dirt filly could have a good shot of at least hitting the board.  She is at odds of 10/1 and is ridden by D. Hogin.

Next up, starting from PP5, is #13385 Lou Hollandia, the #11 ranked long dirt mare, is a 5 year old chestnut mare trained/owned by tote.  She is by Tarlac out of a Mountain Cat bred mare and is 17/9-4-4.  This sprightly mare has never been out of the top three, and for good reason, as she has been a tough contender from the start.  She won at this distance two back by 6 lengths, and should prove herself to be a tough one to get around in today’s race, even though if it is her first graded event.  She is off at odds of 7/1 and has jockey A. Rolling in the saddle.

Then, breaking from PP6, is #8521 Texas Pride, a 4 year old brown filly trained/owned by texasace.  She is a daughter of Deputy Minister out of a Forty Niner bred mare and is 19/7-2-3 lifetime.  Another solid allowance type, but she has had some success with her stakes forays, winning a 10.5fl stakes two starts back.  This filly has never gone 12fl, but doesn’t seem to mind distance.  If she can go the distance, Texas Prides should be another one of many to watch in this race.  She is off at odds of 12/1 and has jock B. Renfroe taking up the reins.

Next, breaking from PP7, we have #39781 Somethinglikethat.  Somethinglikethat is the “old grey mare” of the bunch, as she is 7 years old and trained by the rtribbett stable.  This big brown mare is a daughter of Forty Niner based on Doctor Colony (Clever Trick x Kris (GB)) and is 48/10-7-8 lifetime.  This old girl is still running pretty well considering her age and her number of races.  She has been running solid in the bps races of late, but she will need to step up a bit to continue her in the bps streak.  She is at odds of 15/1 and is being ridden by M. Jolly.

Starting at PP8, is #90155 Sam the Man(IRE), a 4 year old chestnut filly owned/trained by roberto2.  She is by Black Sam Bellamy(IRE) out of a Habitat bred mare and is 18/6-4-2 lifetime.  This filly had a very good year in 2005, but her two races this year haven’t shown too much as of yet.  She can go the distance and she still has the talent to take on any of these fillies and mares, but she needs to get back to that earlier form she had.  She is also off at odds of 15/1 and has jockey J. White in the irons.

Next up, in PP9, we have #89652 K’s Araku, a 4 year old kronus trained filly by Sadler’s Wells out of a Nijinsky II bred mare, and she is 15/9-3-0 lifetime.  This is the #4 ranked long dirt filly, and she has really kicked things into a higher gear since her switch to dirt earlier last year.  She is a multiple stakes winner and has proven she can go this distance.  If she can keep up her winning recent form, she should be able to steal this one out from under everyone’s noses.  She is off at odds of 8/1 and has jock D. Givins up.

From PP10, comes #12260 Westegen(IRE), a 5 year chestnut mare trained by tazzzdevil.  She is by Generous(IRE) out of Marie Du Barry (Gone West x Sadler’s Wells) and is 28/6-7-4 lifetime.  This mare has had a very up and down year, having some stakes success then some not so pretty races mixed in there.  She finished a dismal 11th in the 9fl Delaware Distaff; that and the fact that she has never gone this race’s distance puts her in a really tough spot.  She is off at odds of 16/1 and is being ridden by O.A. Haack.

Next up, breaking from PP11, we have #35117 Buckler(IRE).  Buckler is a 5 year old brown mare trained by holybull99 and is a daughter of Stadler(IRE) out of a mare by Buckboard and is 28/5-7-4.  She is another one of the several solid allowance horses in this race; however, in her only stakes run, she finished a lukewarm 6th.  She will definitely need to step it up a few notches to be a major contender for the win today.  She is at odds of 30/1 and is being ridden by RK Evans.

Starting from PP12, is #95531 Mar Ardento, a light grey 4 year old filly trained by bigheavy.  She is by Cozzene out of Avalon (Kingmambo x Dayjur) and is 19/4-2-2 lifetime.  This filly has been a decent starter allowance horse and has recently made forays into allowance ranks with ok results.  However, she doesn’t seem to have the same kind of talent as some of the other runners in this race, so it will be a tough day for this girl.  She is off at 43/1 and has jockey K. Youngblood in the saddle.

Next, breaking from PP13, we have #62450 Distorted Wife, a 5 year old mare trained by buytapia.  This big brown mare is by Distorted Humor out of a mare by Slewacide and is 23/9-4-4 lifetime.  She has been pretty consistent of late in all of her races, posting decent figures and hasn’t been out of the top 5 in over a year.  If she can continue with her current good form, she should be able to be up there for at least the top 5.  She is at odds of 7/1 and has jockey W. Massey in the irons.

From PP14, is #15997 Black Wood Nymph, a 4 year old brown mare trained by ozzy.  She is a daughter of Black Minnaloushe based on In The Woods (Woodman x Zilzal) and is 25/5-5-6 lifetime.  Here is another who has had decent form of late, except for the race two back where she seems to have been injured.  She is a good allowance horse and has shown some success in her stakes runs. To take this one, she will definitely need to revert back to her pre-injury form.  She is off at odds of 18/1 and is being ridden by jockey N. Bonus.

Up next, breaking from PP15, we have #79182 Arabian Dancer.  She is a 5 year old chestnut coolk trainee by E Dubai based on Autumn’s Cayenne(IRE) (Theatrical (IRE) x Good Counsel) and is 29/9-8-6 lifetime.  She had good form early last year, but has slacked off a bit of late.  She will definitely need to go back to that form to even hit the board this afternoon.  She is off at odds of 20/1 and has jockey F. Gossett taking up the reins.

Starting in PP16 is #18771 Siva, a 4 year old light grey filly trained by imatiger.  She is a daughter of Dynaformer based on Siddhartha (Silver Charm x Palace Music) and is 19/2-2-1 lifetime.  This filly has had problems even running in allowance races, and she doesn’t seem to like distances past 10fl, so I can see her having problems with this field.  She is the outsider at odds of 99/1 and is being ridden by K. Tusten.

Next up, breaking from PP17, we have #84051 Unbridled’s Dance.  She is a 4 year old light grey filly trained by leechy2, sired by Unbridled’s Song out of a Sunday Silence mare, and is 21/8-3-0 lifetime.  This filly has been a very solid starter allowance horse for her current owner, but she has never won an allowance, so she might have a few problems with some of the others in this race.  She has not gone this distance, so that might also be a factor for her race.  She is off at odds of 24/1 and has jockey N. Stelle in the irons.

Breaking from PP18 is #38399 Lakehouse, a 5 year old brown mare trained by the hoffiebarn stable.  She is a daughter of Sadler’s Wells out of Light River(FR) (Irish River(FR) x Affirmed) and is 30/13-5-4 lifetime.  This mare has had good form also recently, placing in two stakes races in her last two starts.  She has gone this distance before and has decent speeds, so this mare should be one to keep an eye out for.  She is off at odds of 10/1 and is being ridden by W. McClendon.

And last, but not least, starting from PP19, is #32087 No More Secrets.  This 6 year old brown mare is trained by the hottotrot stable, is sired by Nijinsky’s Secret out of a mare by Fappiano, and is 34/6-5-5 lifetime.  Another solid allowance runner, but her recent stakes starts haven’t been very stellar.  Besides the fact that she can handle the distance, her speed ratings are not very good compared to some of the other girls in this race, so another with a rough race ahead.  She is at odds of 32/1 and has jockey P. Haynes in the saddle.

Yep, this looks to be a very close race, with many who surprise us all.  In a race with so much up in the air, it is difficult to even think of choosing a winner, so I will keep my opinions to myself and let everyone make their own guesses.  Good Luck and Good Racing!!
