Favored Fappaburt fails to fire

Charliefly’s FLY’S MOTIVATOR ($18) closed strongly in the stretch to capture a rapidly run $50,000 Quicky One Stakes Saturday at the Spa of the Appalachians, tripping the clock for six furlongs in 1.09 4/5 over a good track.

No West Virginia Stakes Competition trainers were able to take advantage of another dull effort by the No. 5 3yo sprinter, Fappaburst, who never fired and finished last of 11.

Instead, it was Fly’s Motivator who came running in the lane to gun down FUSAICHI FLYER out of the Super18 barn, who was able to get to the lead and hold for second over a late-closing Zip Cat out of the Jakebarn stable, who was picking them up late after being last of all early but had to settle for the show money.

Of the five contest horses in the race, Bob123g’s Here’s Indy G ran best, pressing the pace of the eventual place horse before an eventual fourth-place finish.

Once again, a Mountain feature proved very difficult to win, as the winner earned a big 99 speed fig, the best of his career so far, and the show horse earned a fast 96 fig.
