Dixieland Deputy Takes Santa Jezebel
Biding her time early, making a bold move around the final turn, and flying down the stretch, the Lurch trained Dixieland Deputy ran off to win the Grade III Santa Jezebel Stakes. The three-year-old daughter of Dixieland Band has now won four of her nine lifetime starts and has been showing great improvement.
In her last race as a two-year-old, she finished third in a very tough field in the Grade I Mother Story Handicap, run as part of the DelPenn festival of stakes races. She came out of that effort very strong and now has to be considered one of the top three year old fillies in the world.
TG1’s Incredible Peg got off to a clear early lead, but was finished after a half.
When Incredible Peg faded, it looked like the race belonged to PointGiv1’s Lie to Me, who had several lengths on the field, but she could not stand up to the winner’s powerful move.
Taking third was longshot Amazing Discovery. The IsItTrue trainee shook off a weak performance in her previous race and appears to be one to watch next time.
The top rated filly going into the race was Papua Theft who ran an even third.
Favored Five Points and another filly who appeared to be up and coming, Lucky’s Brook Lynn, both finished well back.
