Be Forwarned Stakes Grade III
A good turnout for the Be Forewarned Stakes Grade III at Ontario with a field of 13 hopeful fillies and mares looking to get a share of the $150,000 as well as fame and fortunes beyond including our own dear Aussie registered mare. (Yes I’m from Australia!).
On to the girls…
Post 1: 9/1 Scenic Giant (IRE) – (stlcards3)
With an impressive record and out of the fancied and well performed sire Giant’s Causeway (IRE) this 5yo mare would have to be considered for one of the top places. Form has been a bit patchy of late however responded with a good solid win a fortnight ago in Portugal. If she can maintain the pace she will be there at the end.
Post 2: 17/1 Forloner – (rocinante)
Well bred mare but this one is getting on a bit now. The oldest girl in the field she will be wanting to show the young ones how its done. And she certainly did back in her hey day. Out of AP Indy and Mr Prospector this one oozes class and if she can forget about those old legs of hers she just might have a chance.
Post 3: 11/1 Classic – (sunkitten)
Having raced only 8 times to date this 4yo filly has finished 7 times in the major placings. Out of Tabasco Cat and making her debut in Stakes company she comes here with high regard having run some good times in allowance company including a SP of 107 in her last outing. At odds of 11/1 she could well take this one out if she can produce her last outings run.
Post 4: 12/1 Ms. Maker – (twistystix)
This 4yo filly is one consistent runner with 10 of her 15 outings ending in the top 2 finish. Having unsuccessfully tried turf 2 races back she responded with a great run back on dirt and a good win with a SP of 103. Considering the company she is in here probably just a little out of her reach but she should put in a good run regardless.
Post 5: 6/1 Berzerk Gold – (futurestar)
One of the more fancied runners with the punters in this stakes, this 4yo filly is lacking a little form of late. Has produced some good finishes at this level before with an outstanding record on off tracks with 3 from 3. Just needs some form back and maybe a touch of moisture on the track.
Post 6: 10/1 Gone Fission – (gipper7)
A 6yo mare who has performed well in allowance and stakes company. While the odds suggest she may well threaten here her recent form suggests otherwise at this level. Struggled at G1 level but may surprise here if she keeps her mind on the job and not on the fission.
Post 7: 4/1 Homecoming Dance – (baileybarn)
Equal favourite for this race she boasts an impressive record at all stakes levels including wins at G1. Ranked #9 on dirt, over $1 million in earnings and coming off a Stakes win this one is ready for the dance at the end. Likes to make her run from behind which should make for an exciting finish.
Post 8: 4/1 CA Plane Pour Moi – (psychloan)
Second equal favourite for this race on the punters books, has been in good form in her last few outings. Coming off a short spell and with consistent speed figures over 100 it is hard to go past this one. Likes to run out front and it will be a matter of catch me if you can.
Post 9: 8/1 Edge Hopper – (jake)
This 5yo mare by Danzig is another with a good chance of shaking up the favourites. 16 wins from 29 races and over $2 million in earnings. She is a dirt girl through and likes to run at the back early and then power through for the finish. Ran third in allowance company here at this track on her last outing so she knows the way around here now.
Post 10: 45/1 Down Below – (forbes)
Very lightly raced mare at only 6 races, her three wins have come in maiden and allowance company. She is making her debut here in stakes company and it will be a big jump up in class for her. Unless she can produce her best run yet she will be struggling here.
Post 11: 22/1 Tess (AUS) – (strategy8)
One of my favourites, an Aussie registered mare! With that said although she has produced good speeds in her past performances she appears to be a touch inconsistent from race to race. Out of Viscount (AUS) she will need to produce a very good run to make an impact here.
Post 12: 13/1 Doomsday Jesus (IRE) – (zwango1)
Another of the outsiders by Black Tie Affair (IRE), comes off a second place finish in allowance company. Up against some of the class here, she may well struggle to push the leaders.
Post 13: 12/1 To The Nines – (rohju01)
4yo filly who has some nice breeding in her with Storm Cat x Forty Niner x Northern Dancer. Likes to lead early in her races but that being said, I think she will be caught early here. Probably on the turn I would suggest. Not really a chance I would think.
Acarigua’s Picks:
Win: CA Plane Pour Moi
Place: Homecoming Dance
Show: Scenic Giant (IRE) or Classic
