This is an interesting time of year to watch the Three Year Olds. Many that were somewhat of a disappointment as a juvenile may be ready to spread their wings and fly into the current year. We are getting set to run down the JINX LAGOON Bonanza Stakes Race named for 12 time turf winner Jinx Lagoon. We’ve got a nicely matched field that is ready to get their year started. Let’s take a look:

Lightly raced Giant’s Causeway filly has lived up to Daddy’s expectations. In three races she has two wins but this is her first Stakes try. She loves the lead and the rail and couldn’t have asked for a better post position. Van Dam in the stirrups knows how to bring them home and will be welcome for this first foray into Stakes-Land. She should be one to contend with today…and maybe all year.

Two times Stakes winner, she has only been off the board once in eight turf races. This Best of the Bests out of Lady Tull offspring ran mostly sprints last year but had a nice mile effort her last outing when she finished 2nd with an 87 spf. She is the highest ranked horse in this field and Wheeling hasn’t lost yet this year. Can he keep that streak alive?

Things DO need done with this pretty brown filly. She needs to decide how far and what surface. She is in her second Stakes race but her first on Turf. The Shadeed filly has run in small allowance fields and done well but needs to show where she is going with a big effort here. Trainer Sunrunner needs some guidance from the horse to point her in the right direction.

First Stakes for this Sky Mesa filly. She had been kind of plugging along trying to get her maiden then has won two of the past three including a nice allowance win last outing. The big chestnut girl may be a late bloomer and wants to prove it here. Her 83 spf last time out could do some damage here and with Littleton up in the stirrups, she may be clipping her way home.

Trainer Culloden’s filly is by China Visit out of Wet Photo and is making a step up here in both class and distance. She had won two in row before her first Stakes outing last time out where she struggled at six and a half furlongs. This will be her first time over a mile and her chance to show that she is not going to be a long time allowance contender.

Hopefully this post slot won’t hurt this Hennessy filly who likes to jump on the rail and lead the pack. She showed nice improvement the end of last year and an affinity for the grass. She has only been on the board twice in seven races but both were wins. This is another of those youngsters that looks ready to show if she is going to be a player this year. I’ll be keeping an eye on her.

The buzz around the stables this week has all been about this Tale of the Cat filly who is switching back to grass after a two race hiatus. She has four wins in only nine races and three of those on the turf. Trainer Melwps has shown some frustration with this one, with better speeds on dirt but better results on the turf. She threw the best SPF in the field with an 87 last time out but that was on the dirt. More questions than answers so far and she could provide some here.

This Fantastic Light filly has won two in a row in only three races but both were on off tracks. She showed real improvement last time out and trainer Tenpin8 is ready to unleash her now. She has Smith in the saddle who has been the hottest jockey at the track this year. I’m planning on laying a little money on the nose of this filly at her odds. You might want to too.

A fairly even race with lots of question marks, I like LANNISTER to finish a strong fourth. FANDEPGROOM may be ready to have her coming out but I see her fall just short in third. In a close finish I like LADY OF THE BEST to outlast PORT KITTEN and bring home the win.
