Three Fillies Co-Favored In Norway
Five young fillies have entered this week’s Tenant Hana Memorial here in Norway. The race will be 7.5 furlongs on the turf for a purse of $70,000. Three of them share odds of 2/1, and go off in the first three posts. Alborada(Ire) is by Swain(Ire) out of a Seattle Slew mare and is owned by galicia. She won her debut in Ireland on dirt, then ran fourth in a stakes in Sweden. She returned to Ireland for an allowance, and, not happy with the results, her trainer decided to try turf. The result was a convincing victory over a mile with a speed figure of 86. L. Finley will be riding her today.Alycatz is by Woodman out of a Sadler’s Wells mare and is owned by kinghaven. She has been on turf for all three of her starts. She just missed in her debut in Dubai, then shipped to Hong Kong where she won with ease. Her last race was a mile allowance in Victoria, where she wired the field while running an 82 speed figure. S. Newby gets the mount.Fertilizer is the most experienced filly in the race with nine career starts. She is by Green Desert and is based on the stakeswinning Polish Numbers horse Coolie At Work and is owned by whocares. She started off strong, winning her second start and then placing second in a stakes. She then ran third in the G3 Goats That Faint Juvenile against colts. She has run in two other G3 but was unable to repeat her performance. She ran her best speed figure last time out, running second in a stakes in Victoria with an impressive 88 speed figure. Top jockey H. Knott gives her an edge here. In post four is Fly To Venus(Ire) at 10/1. She is by El Prado(Ire) and out of a Sword Dance(Ire) mare and is owned by parakeet13. She won her maiden, then entered a stakes against colts, but wasn’t quite ready for that level of competition, as the winner was the #8 ranked turf colt. This is a much better spot for her, and she should show improvement. J. Rapp is in the saddle.Rounding out the field at 7/2 is La Gomera. She is a beautifully-bred filly by Fusaichi Pegasus out of a War Chant mare and is owned by bagur. She won her debut, but was injured in her next race and spent some time at the farm recovering. She came back with a very nice allowance victory, then ran third by just a head in a stakes race. She ran on dirt for her last two starts, but returns here to the surface on which she ran an 81 in her allowance win. J. Ruckriegel is in the irons. With the exception of the still unproven Fly To Venus(Ire), this is a pretty evenly matched race. This is one that is almost impossible to handicap, and almost anything could happen. Tune in Saturday to see which filly will walk away with the win.
