The second of two end of year stakes races at California Racecourse went to the patient Lady Rider who paid $6.50 for the win, $3.70 for the place bet, and a minimum $2.10 for show prices. Laughing Regina was $2.50 for place and $2.10 for show, and then Streaking Ted the longshot at 15-1 paid $6.20 if you bet $2 to show on her in The NWRC MB MARATHON– Owner Restricted Purse: $50,000 Fillies and mares, 3 years old and up — RESTRICTED TO PARTICULAR OWNERS One mile — Sloppy Dirt. Favorite in the race, Laughing Regina ran out for a slight lead over longshot Streaking Ted and not far back was kobras3’s Love and Affection(IRE) in third, bullfrogmb’s Lady Rider in fourth four lengths off the lead, and Frozen Ice(GB) and Brass Purse at the way back of the pack in this competitive six horse race. At the half Harry Donaldsa Hicks started urging Laughing Regina a bit harder when Streaking Ted starting falling back although still in second and same order as the first quarter for the other four racers. They came into the stretch and Laughing Regina had a one length lead until Lady Rider came from 3.5 lengths back to fly by half the field and win by almost two and put the field away in a great final time for a sloppy track in 1:36 1/5 for the one mile distance. Laughing Regina had an easy second and Streaking Ted managed to get in the third spot, then Brass Purse, Love and Affection(IRE), and Frozen Ice(GB) to complete the field.
