Mr. Lucky Gets First Grade I Win

MrLuck229, trainer for less than a year, got his first Grade I win thanks to a gritty stretch run by Lucky’s Brook Lynn in Saturday’s Dangerous Reward Handicap, a seven furlong race for two year old fillies sponsored as part of the DelPenn Champions Day.

Lucky’s Brook Lynn has now finished in the money in all nine of her lifetime starts, including her five wins.  This was her third stakes win and her first time trying graded company.

For much of the race, it looked as though the lightly raced Wango Tango from the Zewango4 stable was going to take the win wire to wire, but Lucky’s Brook Lynn made a bold move in the stretch to win by a length and a half.

The two, both at 8-1 odds combined for a $202.30 exacta.

One of the two favorites, Bourbon Alley, from the BlackSwan barn, stayed just behind Wango Tango thoughout to complete the $1,137.30 trifecta.

All three of the top finishers put in great efforts and ran speed figures faster than any horse in the field had ever run.

Deseeker, the other co-favorite never found her rally and finished ninth.

Miss Congeniality, the choice of a certain writer, was doomed as soon as the pick was published and finished last.
