Green stuff gallopers in DPCD Turf Sprint
Pennsylvania– Goodness golly, Miss Molly! DelPenners scraping the barrel, coming out of the woodwork with turf sprinters gallore. From 6/1 to 80/1, twenty green stuff gallopers show their nasty spunk in the $500,000 DPCD Turf Sprint over 6.5 furlongs.
Stakes performers will probably sweep the board, but ya never know. Those DelPenners aren’t above slipping a certain “chemical” something into their horses’ feed….. thus a longshot might surprise us all. The bookies wouldn’t be happy though — double-digit odds for 80% of the field! What a payoff if someone can slip the mickey……….
#1 – Here we go, bobthehat! Thank you for writing DelPenn Day BTB Articles. 🙂 And you got a small chance with this Kingmambo 5YO, One One One. Old boy hasnt done much racing of late, but recently returned to the post and improved slightly LTO at stakes level. Closer gets firm turf this time around. Look for a step forward, maybe for some minor dough at best. 16/1
–> #2 – Machiavellian War smells victory for poppop2. Very competitive, winning 3 of last 8 and in good progress to minor stakes level. War Chant 4YO is a mild longshot, but very tasty from off pace. Effective entry. Look for the board at least. 8/1
#3 – A real trooper sophomore here in Barb’s Libby(IRE). Little guy sure gives his all. Lowball-type SP#s, but he did manage to beat older horses a couple back. Stalker must step up to his lifetime best. Maybe a minor piece of purse would be a good showing for the Giant’s Causeway(IRE) son. Probably pass for the board though. 18/1
#4 – Tony’s Whirlaway Tavern hopes to better his runner-up performance in last year’s DPCD Turf Sprint. Seeking The Gold 5YO hasn’t been his old sassy self this year though and seems ready for breeding shed. How bout a nice round of applause for the old DPCD runner? *clap, clap, clap* Not a prayer for finish line. 13/1
–> #5 – Woo, woo, Wooo! Puzzling why marybarn didn’t put Barb’s Comfort(IRE) in the DPCD Mile, but this Theatrical(IRE) has a nice sprint record, so what-they-hey-who. Your racetime favorite flies from way back of the pack. Can be beat though if a more experienced sprinter rules the day. Still, the class of the field off of his G2 score several back. The class to beat. 6/1
–> #6 – And here’s the danger zone…. Joe Positive was a darn good green stuff galloper in his day and recently returned to racing after lengthy time on the farm. 6YO Red Ransom has two starts since under the hood and progressed nicely LTO. Speedster/pace presser has the goods to surprise. Possible for joplus. 9/1
–> #7 – Another “Barb” entry here: Barb’s Golden Trio(IRE). Competitive sophomore gives his all near each time out. Won impressively LTO from off pace over a larger field too. Hmmm… very interesting. Love to see a hrose on the upswing to pull off a zinger upset. He can also sit forward of midpack too. Very very interesting.
#8 – Here we go, Super-gazillion! Danzig royal bred 3yo filly this time. Hollowback Girl’s lightly raced and fresh off NW2L. Versatile running style. Big leap and, well, most of the time, the horse spits out the bit. Wouldn’t be a huge surprise with that pedigree to hit the board or so. Still, I’ll play the odds and look elsewhere. 23/1
#9 – Old boy and vet Stormy Jack can still pick up his feet for juju at age 7. Storm Cat has the lines and still some pretty nice speed figs. 61st career call to post though. Nice old boy — I’m not gonna pick him to win over his younger rivals.
#10 – Pee-ew, Jeff! Anazazi has no chance. Probably in the post parade to pick a fight with Tony’s horses. Look for jockey Me Fortin(theboondocks) to play roller derby, bouncing this colt off of Jeff’s DelPenn rivals left and right. It’s payback time! Gazillion/1
#11 – Another old vet who can still earn his feed. Cielo Salt worth his weight, hitting the board 4-times in a row at black type level. Difficult this time around, but might earn a cheque for jmb. Minor purse at best for 5YO Sahm son. 10/1
#12 – Yicky, yick, yicky. Miraloma sends out this old Red Ransom and he’s kind of hot-n-cold of late. Touch Too Much more effective at lower stakes levels. At 37 starts, slowing down, but we’ll see if he stil has his A-game. I say look elsewhere. 17/1
#13 – Ba-blah, blah, blah. 4YO Pine Bluff filly Ransom’s Bluff in it for the post parade. Domedriver ready to select a sire next year. No chance. Zzzzzzzzz…….. 41/1
#14 – C’mon Black. Jack. Buda, where are ya? Gotta wake me up, ‘coz I’m falling asleep…. *yawn* Not much racing of late for godmother’s Gone West 4YO. Aint gonna do it again here. Snoooozzzzze… 31/1
#15 – Oh now there’s a conspiracy! How did Tony get the top jockey?!!? Ha! Maybe Piotrowski wants to rumble. I can see it now: Jeff’s Anazazi side-by-side with Tony’s nag, Shattered. It’s the turn for home, jockeys screaming at each other over the wind. Me Fortin(theboondocks) whips Piotrowski over the head. Piotrowski battles back, tugging on Anazazi’s saddle cloth. The two horses bolt to the grandstands, leap over the outer rail, and tear off into the crowd. Railbirds run for their lives. BTB Headline the next day: None. We didn’t post a recap! Ha ha Ha ha HA! Now I’m getting slap happy. 🙂 Trillion-billion/1
#16 – Tango me ango, so fango! Ta ta Tah! Malekfarms’ speedster Tango King finished 4th in last year’s DPCD Turf Sprint renewal. Frontrunner hard-pressed to do the same here. Doubtful. 36/1
#17 – Super-duper back again with another sophomore. This Miswaki colt rides 2-race ALW win streak. Big leap in class though quite the stretch for Devil To Pay. Way hey! Pass. 23/1
#18 – Lowball numbers for Valamar of late. Was a good juvenile last year for jbfarms. Gold Legend youngster didn’t progress enough as a sophomore to vie versus the best in his division. Outside chance, probably outclassed. 19/1
–> #19 – Here’s a pretty good threat: Tequila With Lime. Been racing at graded level in short routes of late. Shortened up at ALW level LTO and picked up nice score. G3-placed earlier this season in turf sprints. Zwylde has a better than average chance to play the spoiler with this Lemon Drop Kid 4YO. Has a shot
–>#20 – Sweet 3YO bargain filly G1-placed versus her age group in turf sprints. Starinsky however doesn’t boast the numbers to likely make a dent here. Still, the frontrunner wired an owner-restricted race against males LTO. She’ll be in the hunt early for txbred. Where she’ll be afterwards though…. anyone’s guess, but probably outrun with those SP#s down the lane.
Snowchief’s Picks:
Well, boohoo. I have no idea whos gonna take this one. I’ll wheel Barb’s Golden Trio(IRE) with Joe Positive and Barb’s Comfort. Machiavellian War might toss that one up in the air though.
Win: Barb’s Golden Trio(IRE)
Place: Barb’s Comfort
Show: Joe Postive or Machiavellian War
Good luck to all and have a great day, DelPenners!
