Pleistocene Looking The Goods
The W.D Coal Special
This week 60k is up for grabs in the W.D Coal Special Stakes. Seven fillies and mares will go at it to try to claim stakes glory for their owner, however only one will succeed. Let’s take a look at the field….
Bragg Creek (IRE) is the long shot of the field and will jump from the inside gate. A good win last time out although in a lot easier company than this. This 4 year old El Prado filly is capable of much better than what she has shown of late however perhaps a turn out into the paddock for a few weeks is all she’s needing to recharge the batteries. Tough.
Break Da Bank hails from the tbonefarms sheds and at 5/1 poses a serious threat here. Ranked 25 in this section she is a more than capable type who has been in great form of late. Will put in a big show and should prove one of the hardest to hold out, this filly has been unlucky at her last couple and is about due for a win.
Nurse Fager is a 5 year old mare who had a slight let up last time but previous form suggests she could do big things here. Coming off a stakes win on the dirt just 2 starts back, the Nurse will have been timed to the moment by iceberg to put on a big show here. Every chance.
Pleistocene Epoch is a 3 year old filly prepared by nextbonus. So far a lot have patience has been put into this gal and she has more than returned the favour at allowance level coming off four wins in her last 5 races. She faces a tougher test here stepping up into the stakes arena however the good thing about her is she knows how to put her nose in front when it counts. Can’t knock her at all and at 6/1 is a huge chance.
Sophisticated Wager has drawn gate 5 for this and has a touch of class about her. This Dixieland Band filly has 9 wins to her name and over half a million in career earnings. She rates a top show here and may win on class alone, another with a strong chance.
Gone Golfing is the favourite at 5/2 in latest markets but looks to be way too short for my liking. Her form of late is not as great as several starts back and she may find this tough come the weekend. Others look preferred here as far as I can read into it.
Debs Day Job may just be the one to knock off. She looks a treat and at 4/1 is worth a wager. She’s only had the 16 career starts to date and banked just over 70k however she seems to excel when stepping up in class. She’ll enjoy the run here and is every chance of running over the top of them. Promising horse for stevenp.
Summary: Tough race to pick, Pleistocene Epoch, Debs Day Job and Break Da Bank are my top 3.
