Othfly’s Mambo Just Too Fast
The sprint for the early lead in Saturday’s Grade III He’s a Charmer Stakes was as fierce as anticipated. Othfly’s Mambo, Goat Farmer, LaGuardia, and Dynahigh all tried to get that early lead they all have used for success in the past.
LaGuardia was the first to succumb to the intense pressure, and she faded to last. Dynahigh could not keep up but ran a gritty fourth.
Othfly’s Mambo was just too strong for Goat Farmer, and the daughter of Kingmambo picked up her 13th lifetime win in 26 starts, and the winner’s share of the $150,000 purse.
Jockey Dean Chancellor was not surprised when he heard she had run her fastest race of the year, while picking up the eighth win of her four year old season. “She was just so strong today. We had to go a little faster than I wanted when we got all that pressure from Benny’s filly, but no one was going to beat us today.”
Trainer Othello watched the star of the stable move to a 15th place ranking in the Classic Turf division.
Favored Light Spectrum came flying late, but that charge came too late and she had to settle for third. Another half furlong and the race may have ended differently.
