My Own Turbo(IRE) Headlines Irish Turf Futurity
Eight young Irish-breds take the course for this week’s Irish Turf Futurity. The race is one mile on the turf for a purse of $75,000. It may be a small field, but it will be an exciting race for sure. My Own Turbo(IRE) is the horse to beat and is no stranger to the winner’s circle, but a pair of Fasliyev(IRE) lads who recently found out that turf is a good thing look to upset him.On the rail at 3/1 is blaster4’s Hardrock Band(IRE). This lad is unraced, but royally bred. He is a son of Rock Of Gibraltar(IRE) out of the stakeswinning mare Blastfilly (Dixieland Band x Mr. Prospector). Blastfilly spread her money earning evenly among dirt, turf, sprints and routes. She won at distances from 5f to 10f, so predicting this little one’s preferences is going to be like throwing darts. This is as good a place to start as any!In post two at 29/1 is morrighan’s Lord Of Magic(IRE). He is a son of Hamas(IRE) and ran very well in the maiden race that he won. He hit a yielding course last time out though, which may be why he ran poorly. Still more questions than answers for this colt, and M. Fontain isn’t a sure bet to give him a good ride.In post three at 3/1 is larrydoyle’s Conscience(IRE), the first of two Fasliyev(IRE) x Kris S. colts that he has entered in this race. This one gets E C Doyle, and showed his true stuff once switched to turf. He improved by another ten points when routed, and finished third last time out in his first stakes with an 85 on a good surface. He tends to go for the lead, which isn’t E C’s strongest point, but looks very good today. In post four at 11/1 is angelet’s Coastal Bellamy(IRE). A filly by Black Sam Bellamy(IRE), she ran a nice second in her debut, and if she’s sharp she should improve even more. She closed very nicely in that race at 8.5f and only missed by 1/2 length, so the distance is not a question here.Post five is the other half of Larry’s Fasliyev(IRE) x Kris S. double, odubhghail’s Eonian(IRE). His odds are 9/2 and he gets Z. Kentucky in the irons. As with Conscience(IRE), he was happy to switch over to turf, going two for two on the surface including a stakes victory before a good track sidelined him last time out. Perhaps we should be taking side bets on which one of the two will finish ahead of the other? In post six at 10/1 is broodmares’ Sinnful Vices(IRE). Doesn’t Sinndar(IRE) just give you all sorts of possibilites for interesting names? This one is bred to run all day, and most likely will look much better once he can run at least ten furlongs. A mile just isn’t doing it. He did run his best speed figure last time out though, and is maturing, but he will need more time and distance before he reaches his true potential. In post seven is today’s star, the one we’re all waiting to see, gael1’s My Own Turbo(IRE). His usual hometrack jockey D. Nickesy is up once again. This colt needs no introduction to Ireland’s regular racegoers. He won his debut here, and won his first stakes in his third start. He followed that up with a strong second in a G3. He was bested last time out by Celerity, but with that colt in the non-Irishbred division today, he is the undisputed favorite at 2/1. Honestly, the only question around him today is the mile distance.Rounding out the field at 10/1 is mrfu2’s Full Soar(IRE). The daughter of Hawkeye(IRE) is 2 for 2, but I honestly have no idea what to expect from this filly from here on out. Her speed figures haven’t impressed, but she’s won so easily that they prove nothing. Her dam was nothing spectacular, but Pulpit x Full Pocket oozes class, and her first foal by Cat Thief is a useful turf sprinter…or was before her owner quit racing last year. Hawkeye(IRE) oozes class as well, but as a freshman sire, it’s anyone’s guess what the babies will be like. He has one stakeswinner already though. (hey muckross, get that horse on turf, i wanna see what she’ll do! lol) The next best two are this one and another damsired by Pulpit, who has run fourth in a G3 on dirt. (hmm…maybe it should be me trying dirt instead of muckross trying turf here). Well, it does look like this race will be the My Own Turbo(IRE) show, with cameos by the Fasliyev(IRE) twins. Hardrock Band(IRE) is anyone’s guess but he’s a blueblood if ever there was one. Coastal Bellamy(IRE) ran great in her debut, but the stakes are much higher here. Full Soar(IRE) knows how to win, but how good is she, really? Good luck to all and may they all come home sound. GO IRELAND!
