Welcome to the Club(G2), K’s Rumor
Nebraska– Top Nebraska jockey H Desitter knew he was on the best colt: “You just can’t beat ‘Rumor’s pedigree (Sadler’s Wells x Seattle Slew x Nijinsky II). As soon as I saw him among the entries, I knew he would beat this group with ease.”
And the royal bred is none other than K’s Rumor Has It, a picture perfect golden bay colt who’s now unbeaten at a mile or more. Kronus’ stable star added serious credentials in his latest outing: an impressive 3 1/4 length romp in the Grade 2 $250,000 Club Stakes for two year olds.
“The trainer (Kronus) was a bit sore at the bookies when they sent ‘Rumor off as the second choice on the morning line,” Desitter said. “But I wasn’t worried at all. My colt won handily last out in Grade 2 company at Kentucky. Same gameplan this time around too, relaxing behind a pedestrian lead, saving some steam for the stretch drive.”
And Desitter’s plan sure worked like a charm. K’s Rumor Has It sat back from a solo lead set by tonno200’s longshot Lovely Sheep. By the three-quarter marker, ‘Rumor had pulled within a length of the speedster and it was “Lookout Charlie!” from there on out.
The come-from-behinder Crafty Cyclone recovered nicely from his puzzling Breeders Bowl flop, chasing the winner home in second for ydracing. Another closer (slowracers’ Clan Of The Cat) nosed out Lovely Sheep for the show.
Final time for the main track’s 8.5 furlongs was a pretty darn good 1:43 flat.
K’s Rumor Has It has now won over $400k with 3 victories from 5 outings.
