One sided affair looms in Victoria

The Chicago Kingdom Special

Seven 2 year old fillies take centre stage this week and will travel 5.5 furlongs on the wet grass for a prize of $90,000. It shapes to be a good race with I’m Set looking set to shine.

I’m Set (AUS) hails from the angaston barns and is by boom first year Australian sire Reset. After an impressive 7 from 7 on the track before retiring hurt, Reset was sent to the paddock and has produced a number of nice runners so far, in particular this girl here. With exceptional blood on both sides I’m Set has been a more than impressive runner in her debut season and ranked 117 in this division will look to put on a big show yet again. Very classy and a couple of good runs at her past two will ensure she is right there at the finish.

Fertlizer has drawn the second alley and from there is bound to get a good run. She’s a nice filly who has been running in some tough races. Stakes placed and $76,000 from just 8 starts whocares would no doubt be very happy with this gal. Rated a 3/1 shot in latest markets I think this gal will appreciate the drop back in distance here and will be very hard to beat come the weekend. Top chance.

Court Speeding is an unraced filly by Greenwood Lake. What can you say? No form to go on, bookies have her at 33/1 so that’s probably the best gauge. I guess you gotta take her on the reputation of pies76 and assume he may have an ace up his sleeve. Who knows.

Nexis River from the laxe barns will be tested here. Ran an absolute shocker last time out after cruising home the run before that in stakes company. She’s a tough one to assess, up and down. If you take her on trust that her trainer knows what was amiss last time then assume she could run a big one, however her only real exceptional run in her career to date is her stakes win 2 starts back. Could bounce back but will have to wait and see.

Bernina is a Dixieland Band filly who is ever improving and will be hard to hold out. She’s put in some great runs in alw class and looks well placed here. She’s stakes placed only once on turf sprints but her form reads well enough in this company that she could do very well here. Bossross will have her primed for this, look for a big run from this girl.

U Crack Me Up (IRE) is a Desert King filly and is rated a 7/1 chance in latest markets. Her win in the NW 4L was very good a few starts back but so far has struggled a bit when stepping up to stakes company. Not a bad run last start despite the placing, this filly seems to have been caught napping over the concluding stages in her last couple. Perhaps she could turn it around if ridden off the speed and allowed to come from further back? I don’t think this field is overly strong so she’s in with a chance for sure, especially if ridden off the pace and its found to be to her liking.

Dubai Star has drawn barrier 7 for this but will still get a good run from there. This is her first crack at stakes level and looks well placed by warchant. She also hasn’t tried turf yet so a big query as to whether she’ll handle the track. Her last run was very good which she won convincingly and providing the turf is to her liking she may pull one out of the hat here. Another difficult one to assess and could surprise if right.

Summary: An interesting race looks to be shaping up here, not an overly crash hot field and therefore would have to assume that the number 1 I’m Set should have a runaway victory. Bernina and Fertliser are probably your next best and then there are some unkown factors amongst the others.

I’m Set for me.
