Allied Assault snares 12th Grade 1
It wasn’t exactly a “glorious” run, but Allied Assault plainly got the job done. The leading turf horse and multiple Sim Eclipse award-winner galloped to an easy score in the Grade 1 $500,000 Victoria Plate. Masterab’s 5YO horse is now one Grade 1 victory away from matching Joe Cayenne’s magical 13 G1-wins record.
Only four horses showed up to challenge Allied Assault …. and really only one presented any kind of threat: click’s Swingshift Sal, a leading turf performer in the Classic division. Even that turned out to be a non-starter since Swingshift Sal clearly did not enjoy the 12 furlongs, finishing a dusty-n-distant third.
Instead, Allied Assault played redux of his usual way, way back rally, putting on a mighty workout show for the Victoria fans. The War Chant son was certainly the class of the field, dispatching marianus’ eventual runner-up Crimson Prospector (who won the battle of the pacesetting “longshots”) around the final turn. The final time was a rather pedestrian (for Allied Assault anyway!) 2:31 1/5, a 100 SP#.
But that’s all that the big guy needed. He now moves past Sunnybank Memorial (who lost in Week 2538) to take sole possession of second on the all-time Grade 1 victories list at 12 wins.
Allied Assault boasts a superb 22-for-36 lifetime record and pushes $9-million in career earnings.
Looking Ahead
Keep an eye on Sunnybank Memorial possibly in:
Week 2566
Race : Royally Modest Cup – Grade I – $500,000
Track : Ascot
Restrictions : All horses, 3 years old and up
Distance : A mile and three eighths on the Turf
Track : Ascot
Restrictions : All horses, 3 years old and up
Distance : A mile and three eighths on the Turf
That would be four weeks rest since his Week 2538 loss to Rain God. However, trainer lilbitfarm might want the full six weeks and the result would be a sure treat for Sim fans because……..
Knowing Masterab, Allied Assault will probably get a 5-week breather before trying to avenge his loss in last year’s Sword Swallower(G1) at New York. Will ‘Memo run sooner or later? 🙂
Week 2580
Race : Sword Swallower Stakes – Grade I – $500,000
Track : New York
Restrictions : All horses, 3 years old and up
Distance : A mile and one half on the Turf

If not, these two great stars probably won’t meet until the Man Of War(G1) in early September. 🙁
