Joe’s Loop ekes out quarter length victory in Super Turkey Special

The Super Turkey Special lived up to its potential to be a thriller, with three horses finishing within a three quarters of a length at the wire. Joe’s Loop grabbed the honors, though, going wire to wire, under pressure the whole way. This is her third win in a row, and her first stakes win. It also extends her streak of top three finishes to five in five career starts. Her earnings breached the $72K mark, and it pushes her to the rank of 132 among juvenile turf sprinters.

The race was extremely tight at the break, with the entire field crammed into three quarters of a length at the first call. Joe’s Loop managed to shake loose a bit at the two furlong marker, but was still under pressure especially by Mmm Grid Girls, who matched her pace right down into the stretch. As they turned for home, it was still anyone’s race, with Joe’s Loop still holding a slim lead, the the field still all withing two lengths. Joe’s Loop held off all comers though to grab a slim quarter length victory at the wire. Aptifee was closing madly down the stretch, and with another couple of yards could have won this one, taking second. Mmm Grid Girls was right there woth them at the wire, claiming third place, just three quarters off the lead at the finish.
