Fillies and mares, 2 years old
An impressive field awaits us today, one of these promising fillies will take home her first Stakes win, and hopefully there will be more to follow. This field is so tight, their performance’s and times are so similar. Will it be a fairytale dream for Cheryln Bg, 3 starts back she was running in claimer races; or will one of the established blood lines rise to the top Funky Dixieland(IRE).
My selections are: 3 -2-1
#1 (5/1) Syrian Storm (2yold Filly)
Last start winner, out of
#2 (9/2) Hollow Hawk (2yold filly)
WOW!!! An eye catching filly, the future looks promising. She is out of Beat Hollow(GB), who has produced some of the best 2yold this season. Hollow Hawk is no exception, and looks to be improving with ever run. From 4 starts, a 100% record of finishing in the money. Her last run was over 8 furlongs on turf, where she stormed home to finish 2 lengths of the leader. Will be one of the back markers, who will run on, with some luck she will be hard to beat.
#3 (6/1) Cheryln Bg (2yold Filly)
You will not see this filly in a claimer again. Her previous owner placed her in a 20k claimer three starts back, what a mistake!!! Theboz, her current trainer has brought the best out of her, and probably squeeze every ounce of ability out of this filly. So far 2 starts with the new trainer, with an impressive time of 84 two starts back on turf over 7 furlongs. She can be forgive for her last start over 6.5furlongs 2nd in her first stakes run. She looks more like a mile horse, and that is exactly where she is today. A well rested filly, out of
#4 (4/1) FUNKY DIXIELAND(IRE) (2yold filly)
Mixed start to her career, didn’t show much until her owner switched her to turf. Since then she has chalked up 4-2-1-1. Very consistent horse, she will need to lift a notch her is she is to win. Last 3 starts she has averaged 79 speed, both on 7 and 7 1/2 furlongs. I don’t’ think the slight increase in distance should worry her. Will be in the money, she is the favorite, but there are so many like her today,’Promising’.
#5 (9/2) Incredible Diva(IRE) (2yold filly)
Well bred filly out of Galileo(IRE). So far she has had 2 starts with a win and 2nd. Her last start was impressive, 79 on turf over 8 furlongs. If she can keep this up she is right in this one. This 2yold filly oozes talent, and looks like she can add to her tally, will need to find the next gear, as there is a class field.
#6 (8/1) Almost an Angel(FR) (2yold Filly)
Sired by an unknown to many, Ange Garbriel(FR), this sire has some top quality 2yolds going around, despite no Stakes winners to date. Almost an Angel plans to change all this today. She is a super consistent filly, who has run into some form, 7-2-1-2. Her best time came 3 starts back on turf 7 furlongs 74, but hasn’t been able to go on with it. She is presented with a classier field today, and probably will find the going tough.
I would NOT be writing this one off so soon, but lift in class and distance might be too much for her today, place chance as best.
#7 (6/1) Miss Leebaz (2yold Filly)
Miss Leebaz, out of Royal Academy x Zabeel(NZ). Proven over the journey, but probably lacks consistency, but what a run she had 2 starts back over 8 furlongs, 83 on turf 8 furlongs. She might be the forgotten filly at the moment; she has the pedigree, class and performance to win today, only time will tell if she can string it all together, that looks to be her problem.
#8 (8/1) Turfin
At 8/1 she presents her self as the roughie, hard to believe!! Her last 2 starts, she has produce some sound efforts, but will fall short if she can’t find the next gear.
Best time came 2 starts back on turf 8furlongs of 77. Will need to reproduce this performance with some more. Sound 2yold that is looking to surprise the field, She has a few things going for her, likes the distance, looks fresh, and has found career best form.
