Quiet On The Set Holds Off Acid In Exciting Stretch Run

Wow, what a race! It may not have been graded, but The Alychocolate Count Special was full of graded-quality excitement. As is his preferred style, Z. Kentucky shot Utility View straight to the front, ignoring Anera(AUS), who tried to challenge him for the lead. As soon as they hit the halfway point, the crowd roared as a ghostly gray form came storming up the track. Quiet On The Set had been settled in only 7 lengths or so back, just waiting for his chance. Then there was another roar from the crowd as they hit the top of the stretch! It was Acid, who had closed from at least 16 lengths back, roaring up the rail trying so hard to get there before the wire. If he’d had another furlong to work with, he may have done it, but he fell short by a length.

Quiet On The Set actually ran faster today than he did in winning the G2 Grumpy Old Men Marathon, finishing with a 102. His win today moved him up to #9 in the long dirt division. The youthful Acid broke 100 for the first time in his career, as his owner had predicted he soon would, and also broke $100K. Despite having run only six times, he is now ranked #27 in the 3yo long dirt division. Sinanju finished third……eleven lengths back. He ran a 94 for the third time in the last four races, and despite coming back only a little groggy, is being turned out for the rest of the year, hoping that a vacation will have him ready for triple digit speeds next season. The mare Violent Storm finished fourth in a photo finish over Green Lantern(IRE), whose Irish luck had done all it could just to get him a check, but didn’t have enough magic left to help him in the photo. Shock And Awe Too, despite finishing sixth, retains his #1 ranking for now, but it looks like he will have a lot more competition for that title next year.
