SKIP THE CAT Skips to Win in Florida
Skip the Cat took a big step toward future greatness at the LA Plumber Bonanza Stakes at Hialeah in Florida today. He easily captured the top spot in the $105,000 turf stakes race for Juvenile Fillies.
This gorgeous grey filly by Skip Away out of Queen’s Cats moved her earnings over $200,000 and made it four of seven turf races in the win column and all but one of those in the money. Trainer Slewsback has five two year olds in his stable but this little lady is the best and may be truly special. She moved up to the 18th ranking from a pre-race 35 for turf sprinters and was facing two of the fillies that were ranked higher than her. She dispatched them all with ease and gave Slewsback something to think about when planning his filly’s future.
As figured, Coral Hipster jumped out to the early lead in the race and built it up to over three lengths by the half but this time didn’t have enough left to carry her. Go Fl Gators was trailing second and moving up when she looked over her shoulder and saw Skip the Cat flying up from the fourth spot, soon to take the lead and never give it up. Auction Baby was in her wake and finished second over Go Fl Gators.
Skip the Cat may have one more race before her three year old season. I’m sure she will be looking ahead to May when they have a big party in Kentucky and scheduling to fit that into her calendar. We will be watching.
