Senior Robin Cap
(SP)Wyoming-The four ladies that ran in the Titanium Palace Special tried to put on a show and the first half of the race was entertaining, but it turned into an interesting sideshow for the ending. The fillies finished in order of their respective odds set earlier in the day, but it was a nice effort for all concerned. Unfortunately the sentimental favorite, Moon Brisson(IRE), was injured when she was bumped coming out of the gates. She took a wrong step and it became obvious something had been pulled. Open Your Mind showed this skeptic that she was deserving of her favorite standing. She ran her race the same as always coming from the back and blowing the saddles off her competition. High Drama(IRE) and Doctor Cryan were in a head to head race for the first half and it didn’t look either one was going to give an inch. At the half way mark High Drama started pulling away when she took it up a notch. Doctor Cryan was unable to respond and faded badly at the end of the race. As a side note it is good to report that the widely respected and well like old veteran Vice Gannon rode to his 200th career stakes victory. When he brought his mount into the victory circle he was given a standing ovation. When asked about his achievement, Gannon stated, “It is something I will relish for a long time. Each win is special but it is not often a person can accomplish one of their dreams, let alone going beyond them. Today I have gone father than I ever dreamed possible.”
Before we get to the main attraction for the weekend we should make mention that the Northwest Racing Circuit will be running a mile race for elder horses. It will feature six horses that may be past their prime but still have a burning desire to compete. So it will be well worth your while to hang around for the nightcap race this Saturday.
The featured race Saturday will be the $60,000 Senior Robin Cap. I will be an eight and a half furlong race on the dirt oval for three year or older horses. A field of twelve hopefuls has entered for this little jaunt and it should be a good day for racing. The weather report calls for dry sunny conditions, but it will be a bit crisp out there so don’t forget your down jackets. Here are the entrants for Saturday.
Lost Dutchman entered by slowracers. This sophomore is a chestnut-coated colt by Mining. He took a while before deciding to win his maiden, but did so in spectacular fashion and then went on to win his next race which was an allowance. Now he finds himself in the big event full of confidence and willing to put his front running style to the test against tougher competition.
Glad Lad entered by sabalou. This elder colt is sired by Lil’s Lad and comes into the race being on the board for half of his races. He has been running at stakes level for only half this year and already has a win to his credit. He has the most success when he lets another horse dictate the pace and then closing on the leaders.
Go For Dyna entered by gowand9. This sophomore colt by Dynaformer has had a two-season year. He started off by winning his maiden and then going on to win four more races, two of them stakes level. The last four races have not been what the trainer would have liked. The horse has been running well, but not up to his potential. The trainer is hoping a return to normal stakes level and shortening the distance will spark his earlier fire.
A.P. Heart entered by toots. This horse by A.P. Indy ran very sparingly his first three years. He then was bought by this trainer and given a more strenuous schedule. The horse responded well winning a couple of allowance races. The trainer is now running him at stakes level with only mediocre results to date. He may be more competitive a level down.
Wonderboy Darby(IRE) entered by bamba. This Irish sophomore colt sired by Theatrical makes his first stakes attempt of the year. This front runner does have five wins under the saddle, but has not really done well at stakes level. The trainer believes that age, experience and hard work should improve his stakes performance from last year. The horse has the ability to do well but his desire comes into question as to whether or not he ever will.
Glacial Lake entered by riverflyer. This elder colt by Smart Strike has recently been in the claiming ranks and is also where the trainer picked him up. He is a very sporadic racer and it is hard to tell what he will do from race to race. His only stakes attempt so far was an embarrassment where he finished 25 lengths back. The trainer has gotten than enough money back for his claim price and should probably send him back there.
Zarcillo entered by andros. This is a chestnut-coated sophomore by Cryptoclearance. The colt stumbled his last time out on his first race in the US. The trainer believes it was just a minor glitch as the horse has gotten use to the smells and sounds related to American racing. He is a natural closer but is not averse to taking the race in hand when others are unwilling too. During this race he will probably use his closing style.
Cruel Dude entered by wrecks2. This elder light gray colt sired by Chester House only started racing this year. He has been on a tear on the Japanese circuit, winning six of eight races and travels to the US for the first time. This will be his first attempt at the stakes level and is hoping to turn his earlier success into gold. He is a slow starter but closes with real fire.
Summer Dawn entered by jrogue. This is a light gray horse by Summer Squall. The horse seems to have lost a step but has still been performing well all year. This lost step could be attributed to his season ending injury he sustained in the middle of last year. It was also the last time he ran in a stakes race. The trainer believes he is improving well enough to take the next step in to stakes racing.
Wizard Of Westwood entered by lieut60. This chestnut horse by Vision And Verse is another horse that just recently came off the claiming market. He has been running routes this year and that has breathed new life into his racing career. He is a stalker with great stamina and this seems to be to his advantage. Although, this race may a bit too short for his liking and he may prefer a somewhat longer race.
In A Meeting entered by slewbacca. This chestnut sophomore sired by General Meeting has been slowly improving during this season. The colt has had moderate success at stakes level so far and is hoping to use his strong momentum of the moment to record his first stakes win. He is a front runner and will bring that into play this weekend.
Bases Loaded entered by baseball. This sophomore colt by Broad Brush stays in the west as he takes on his second stakes race. His last time out was a respectable run at a sprint and he comes into this race stretching back out to a more comfortable range. He also shows not ill effects from a very heavy schedule for his rookie year. He loves to stalk the pace and will most likely do the same in this race.
