Fillies and mares, 2 years old
Welcome to “The One Quest Memorial Stakes” for 2yold fillies over 7 furlongs on dirt. Punters are faced with a modest field of 6 starters, where most of the runners are lightly raced. Their respective trainers are still getting a feel of these promising 2yold fillies, some of the horses have been tested over 8 furlongs, but haven’t preformed and a been dropped back in distance which is more familiar to them, like:
Apt to Flight(6/5), Tickle Pickle(7/2). There are 3 fillies yet to win a stakes, V’s Best Bet (5/1), Takamak(5/1) and Full Passion(5/1) and surprisingly Denver Doll(6/1) stakes win came on the turf.
Although the favorite horse is Apt to Fly(6/5) there are several chances that looms as genuine threats.
My selection are: 2-3,5-3,5, will take a lot of beating this favorite, value bet is the 5
Denver Doll (6/1): Hasn’t lived up to early promising form and her stakes win has come on the turf. Her times over 6furlongs have been in the mid 70’s, she will need to find an extra gear if she is to perform a magic act to win this one. She comes back to the dirt, which will suit her run, needs to improve.
Apt to Fly (5/1): Last start was convincing beaten by a quality field a graded stakes race, she ran a competitive time over 8 furlongs 78. Her previous start shows that she has ability in shorter sprint distance, ran 86 over 6 furlongs. Drops back in class and distance, will be hard to beat!
Tickle Pickle (7/2): Like the favorite, this filly also drops back in class and distance. Last start was easily beaten in a grade one stakes over 8 furlongs. The drop in class and distance will suit. Two starts back over 6.5furlongs, a distance that is more suited by this promising filly, she ran an impressive time of 81. If the favorite doesn’t fire she will take this race by the scruff of the neck and give it a red hot go..looms as the major danger.
V’s Best Bet (5/1): As her name suggest, she is probably the value bet of this race. Her trainer has been patient in developing this filly, this is her first start in a stakes. She is aiming for a hat-trick of wins. Last start was impressive over 5.5furlongs with speed of 86. This filly looks to have hit some form, nicely trained and would not surprise if she knocks of her more likely rivals in this race. Make no mistake this trainer knows what he/she is doing.
Takamaka (5/1): Has only had 3 starts to date. Last start ran over 7 furlongs, and ran an average time of 73. She is still an unknown quantity, needs a few more races under her belt before we can truly access her capability. I believe she has been rushed a little to contest a stakes race, but time will tell if she has what it takes as a 2yold.
Full Passion (5/1): The odds of 5/1 flatter this filly, she was a last start winner, but the field was weaker than what she will be facing in this race. Compounding her chance is that she last ran 3 weeks back. To green and wild to match it with these fillies, would like to see her run in a few more lead-up races before she tackles at stakes level.
