Wheres Slimfast Looks To Knock Off The Skank
Wheres Slimfast Looks To Knock Off The Skank
Another week, another race and one of the highlights on a quality Victorian card this week is the Six Captain Stakes.
Worth a cool $95,000, 9 fillies and mares will battle for glory on the turf in what looks to be a tightly matched field.
The weather forecast is looking great for the weekend so get to the track end enjoy the show that will be put on in Vic.
Now to the runners……
Skank is rated a 4/1 chance in latest markets and with drawing the inside barrier looks to be one of the main players here. A 3 year old from the larsonista barn, Skank has put away just over 170k for her trainer in just 21 starts and looks about due for a win again. She is in great form, is proven at stakes level and is sure to give this a serious shake. Big chance.
Wheres Slimfast smashed her rivals last start and could have won by more only that her jockey stood up in the styrups ½ a furlong from home and saluted the crowd. Rated a 13/1 chance by the bookies I would consider taking out a loan against my house and putting it on this gal to salute again here. Glad to see ironstable has got her back on the grass, she loves it and will fire again. Great value at odds and can win.
Gretna (ire) has so far enjoyed a short but successful career. Just 11 starts to date she has been well looked after by breed2sell. Perhaps a little out of her depth at her last two she will look to hit back hard here. A slight query on her is the drop back in distance having not sprinted for a few starts now this may be her biggest hurdle to overcome. Does Gretna have the fuel in the tank to go out hard early? We’ll know the answer to that come the weekend. Others look preferred.
Northern Darncer (aus) from the corza3 sheds is rated a 5/1 chance in the latest markets and that looks about right for her. She’s been in good allowance form of late and boasts a turf sprint rank of 313, though she does meet some stiffer company in this than what she’s used to. She does like to hit the line hard though has been known to leave her run a bit late in the past. Obviously corza will have her well set for this but I think she will find it tough here and a place chance probably looks best.
Semele gives us something we haven’t really hit as yet….. class. She oozes class an while disappointing at group 1 level last time out will find this an easier gig. Would not be surprised if she wins this by a length or two. Her record speaks for itself at the distance and she loves the grass, she’ll likely sit mid to back field and then unleash the fury in the furlong leading up to the home straight. An exciting prospect for phillyfarm, Semele will be very hard to beat.
Real Wood Fan has drawn the 6th gate for this and from this alley should get a nice run. She’s been running great and was unlucky not to have taken the bulk of the purse last time out, just running into a better one on the day. Here she will look to make amends for that and certainly gives punters something to consider at 5/1. By Woodman, this gal turned the corner last start and tazzzdevil will no doubt be hoping for something similar. She really did jump out of her skin at odds last time, her form only ordinary before that. Tough to call what she’ll do and will be a big watch.
Gold Squall is 2/1 equal favourite for this and looks well placed to win this one. This 3 year old boasts a turf sprint rank of 4 which is extremely impressive and she will take some beating again here. 10 wins from 19 starts and a cool ½ million in the kitty, this gal knows how to hit the line hard and she’ll be there again here. Be a surprise for her to not run top 3. A good win last start and a top jock on board here, this Storm Cat filly is an exciting prospect.
Arrange (aus) is one of the longer shots in the field at 16/1. I remember seeing this girl last year lining up for a run in the breeder’s bowl, can’t remember how she went but what impressed me was her record at the time and the fact her breeding is nothing special. She is certainly one out of the hat for Align (aus) and has done encores proud. Has been doing well in stakes quality fields of late but does look to run into some fairly smart ones here. Will have her work cut out for her to get up but certainly capable.
Seattle Two Step has drawn the widest alley here and is rated an 8/1 shot with the bookies. 43 races to date she is the most experienced campaigner of the field but not even that will be able to get her over the line on the weekend. Her form of late doesn’t stack up to these girls here and would prefer to see her back in allowance company. No chance.
At big odds I like Wheres Slimfast to take this one out. Semele and Gold Squall will be very hard to beat while Real Wood Fan may upset them all.
