Fillies and mares, 3 years old and up — RESTRICTED TO PARTICULAR OWNERS
This race has attracted some of Minnesota Downs super mares and fillies sprinters on 7furlongs Turf. This Sprint is a superb lead up to assess who is the undisputed Mare/Filly Turf Sprinter at Minnesota Downs.
Will it be the old Girl (8/1) STONEYBROOK DESERT, or perhaps one of the up and coming super fillies like: (7/2) RIVERBOAT QUEEN, (11/1) SAUK VALLEY STORM, or will the current Super Mare (7/2) CARS AND THE CITY retain her title, or could be on of the rank outsiders. There are so many runners that are dropping in distance from a mile to the sprints; do those trainers know something that they aren’t telling us?
My Selections are: (7/2) CARS AND THE CITY from (7/2) RIVERBOAT QUEEN and I have dubbed (8/1) A POLISH FOREST as the heir apparent to Minnesota Downs Turf Filly/Mare Sprinter, this is the late whisper.
(48/1) SUZI FIDDLES (3yold filly)
This filly hasn’t been able to replicate some of her promising 2yold form, where she was a multiple stakes winner. Her best run of recent times over this trip has been speed of 89 last start. She winless in her last 10 starts, I’m not sure what the owner/trainer can do with her.
“Hasn’t been able to deliver the form that won her respect as a 2yold. hard to see her finishing in the money”
(25/1)STONEYBROOK DESERT(AUS) (3yold Filly)
An honest filly out of Testa Rossa(AUS). Has has some smart runs, three and four starts back running an impressive 94 and 96, which was on dirt and over the mile. “Looks to be a promising stayer, not a sprinter, will find the going tough in the sprints. Perhaps better suited to 8furlongs plus, not the worst in the feel”
(8/1) I CAN HEAR YOU (5yold Mare)
What a career this old girl has had to date. She keeps bringing home the money for her connections thru out her career. As a 5yold she is starting to show the effects of aging, 2 starts back she broke down, and last start she showed only glimpses of what she is capable of. If she can recapture the from that has brought her multiple stakes as a 3 and 4yold, she will be one of the dangers. In Minnesota Downs Residency she is ranked 5th best horse over this journey and surface. “not ready after her almost career ending injury, her trainer has taken every precaution to assure that she will be, fit and proper. I’d put her in my multiples out of respect.”
(58/1) HELLO DUBAI(IRE) (3yold filly)
This 3yold filly, has had an interesting journey to get to this race. Claimed for a monster $60k three starts back, but hasn’t been able to show enough form to loom as a major threat in todays speed classic. The owner seems to still be trialing this young 3yold, and is dropping her back in distance, her previous runs have been over staying distances +8furlongs. “perhaps not ready to challenge some of the real contenders, but i look to see what the new trainer can deliver with this young filly”
(19/1) SLAM GRAM (3yold filly)
One of the roughies of the field. Her best times have come over longer distances. 4 starts back ran an impressive 95 on turf over 8.5furlongs.
“Will find it hard work keeping up with this field, better placed over the mile than in a sprint , big test for this filly”
(7/2) CARS AND THE CITY (4yold filly)
Arguably the best turf sprinter that Minnesota Downs Residency has produced, or at least for this year. She is a impressive filly with multiple stakes wins this year. I can’t see her being beat today. She steps back in distance to her more preferable distance of 7furlongs, where she has been lightning quick. Three starts back she was a Grade 3 stakes winner over 7furlongs.
“She is an explosive filly, look forward to seeing her in the coming equinics, will be in the money come the finishing post. My money is on her, Will be hard to beat, don’t see anything that can stop her today!!!”
(20/1) WEBSTER ST(IRE) (4yold filly)
A big question mark remains around this filly’s ability to handle the turf track. Her last 2 start on turf have been disappointing, early in her career she was a exceptional turt mile horse. This one time turf lover is been put back on turf over a distance that she hasn’t run before. This might be the race that sparks her back into the mix as a genuine turf horse.
“The x-factor !!! This horse has the ability, but only time will tell if she can put it together. I’d but this horse in my multiples, gut feel tells me she might be the surprise packet!!”
(10/1)LEATHER LION (6yold mare)
Breeding prospects look good for this 6yold, I’m afraid to say I think her best is well behind her. Last start was her first win in over a year. With a speed of 93 over 6.5furlongs. This mare is rarely disgraced. I think the owner is waiting for next year to produce some offspring from her.
“Look for a good run, will not leave you wondering, she gives it her all every start with out fail, but I’m afraid she is out classed today, place chance at best”
(18/1) HOPETOBEFAST (4yold Filly)
Has found some career best form, last start she ran a 94 over the mile, she drops back in distance and am not sure how she will coupe, looks to be in her best form. “A horse on the rise, but i don’t think this is her race. Place chance at best”
(33/1) KIKI’S GIANT CITY (3yold filly)
This filly is on the rise, she is getting better and better with every run. She is at 33/1 which in my opinion is “Overs”. Her last start she ran 94 on turf over 7furlongs. “A genuine filly, that steps up in class, she is starting to gain moment, only time will tell for this filly, keep safe and place change at best”
(7/2) RIVERBOAT QUEEN(3yold filly)
Wow what a 3yold filly, make no mistake folks, she might be taking on some of the best that Minnesota has to offer, but as a 3yold filly she is right up there. Last start she conquered a graded stakes over 8, one before that she won over 7.5furlongs. her only start less than a mile produce a remarkable win with speed of 103. “She has blossomed as a nice one miler and she has even produced a eye catching win in a sprint. She will be tested today. She is the real danger to Cars and the CIty”
(8/1) A POLISH FOREST (3yold filly)
Speaking of up and coming super fillies, enter ‘A Polish Forest’. This horse in on the rise, a genuine turf filly sprinter. She is currently ranked 4th in the Minnesota Residency’s best turf filly sprinter. Last start she was eye catching winning over 7.5furlongs with a time rating of 105.
‘If she can carry on he current form, she looms as the heir apparent to ‘Cars and the City’ as Minnesota’s Best!!!”
(99/1) SWAMPY WiSH(IRE) (4yold filly)
The only reason this filly isn’t in triple figures is because she is trained by a premier trainer from Minnesota.
“She will have to be ridden for luck, and will have to do something special if she is to be on the same screen as some of the fillies”
(28/1) STAGE MAGIC (2yold filly)
One of the roughies, but not the worst. She has clocked 100+ speed in her career. two starts back she ran 100 over 8 furlongs turf. A real wild card of the race. “Change at best for a place, she lifts in class and is a chance to be in the mix”
(11/1) SAUK VALLEY STORM (3yold filly)
Minnesota Residency has 12 fillies that have gone 100+ in the turf sprints. ‘Sauk Valley Storm’ is one of them. Last start she ran in a 7furlong turf sprint and was only able to manage a 4th with speed of 93.
Will need to improve if she is to be any chance in this race.
“Personal best effort is required if she is to be in the frame come the finishing post. Place change more likely”
(17/1) ELECTRIC EEL (4yold filly)
In Recent times the owner has tried to make this 4yold a stayer over the mile, she drop back in distance to contend this feature sprint race. Will find the going hard today, she is out classed and will need to run some super time to be in the money. “Not Completely out of this one, but will find the going tough”
(18/1) KILCONQUHAR (4yold filly)
One of the real battlers in this field, but not the worst. Like so many in this race she has stepped back in distance, and the owner is hoping something can happen for her in the sprints. “Ridden for luck, and maybe just maybe something might happen.”
(31/1) AMERICAN GIRL(4yold filly)
This filly although at big odds, has had some eye catching runs. With only 7 starts under her belt, she looks to have found some form, last start over a mile she won with an impressive speed of 99. I’m not sure if she is a sprinter, but she seems to have taken a found liking to a mile or less.
“Minnesota look out she could be the surprise packet of the field”
