THE SAND CASTLE GOLDOPHIN MILE
SANDCASTLE GOLDOLPHIN MILE
Grade II 8f Purse 1,000,000 75% of showers
LETMEGOCRAZYONU-
This speedy colt has made trainer/blankpoin2 over a million dollars in earnings during his succesful 3yr old campaign.
His accomplishments include the California Derby Lock Prep,in which he brought home the 750,000 prize and the win
sending him into the 2012 G1 Bluegrass Derby, but he would finish a disappointing 12th that Saturday never finding his
trademark long reaching strides. Two starts later he would run 2nd in the G1 Eddie Haskell Stakes to get his share of
the 1,000,000 prize, closing strongly but just falling short of the win. His last start at 3 found him in the G1 Sterile Mile
where he would run a tremendous race, rating well for jockey O Brim throughout the 8f race till he was asked to run
in the stretch where he sailed past challengers to a 2 1/2 length win, bringing home a purse of 300,000.
In his only start at 4 thus far this son of Eskendereya, out of the mare Sim Fanatic, ran 6th in the G3 8f Khartoum Dirt
Challenge in Dubai, but perhaps not having to ship in for the Sancastle Goldolphin will give him an edge here.
AMUSING ANYMORE-
This 5 year old horse comes in to this race fresh having not raced since December of last year, he looks to take home the
win he narrowly missed last year in this same race at 4. He was run down in the stretch by Left of Reason and bets are
that trainer/raynham won’t let that happen again this year. This horse by A.P Indy out of the mare Singing Springs is
talented enough to get the the distance here, with a win in the G3 Salvatore Mile back in July of 2012, he also has managed
two strong showings in the G2 Middle Ground Mile and the Sterile Mile finishing 2nd in both. His last start in Decmeber
found him trying turf for the first time, which either didnt agree with him or was a soft race to give this horse a nice lay
off and bring him closer to the country of Dubai to prepare for this race. Can he bring home the win this year and boost
his earnings over the two million dollar mark?
LOCKHART ROAD-
This capable horse out of TiznowxSeeking the GoldxPleasant Colony comes into the Sandcastle Goldolphin Mile with more
lifetime wins than any other entry. With an amazing 13 wins from 26 starts he’s still short of the big million dollar earnings
badge, but that could all change with a win here Saturday. He’s already put in two powerful performances to start his 4yr
old season with a win in the January G3 Pals Hope 8f and Febuarys 2nd place finish in the Code Mat Dirt Mile Stakes. Could
having to ship in from the U.S. and his prior races be too much? Trainer/icbomber7 will take his chances and brings into the
Goldophin another entry in this race, Bound For Big D.
DANCING WITH KINGS-
Heres a horse that should show his abilites on Saturday, finishing in the money in every start of his 3yr old season in 2012,
except in the G3 Its All Your Fault 8f where he ran a discouraging 8th place, trailing early he just never seemed to fire that day.
He comes in with two starts at 4, the first in the January G3 Pal’s Hope 8f, where he again trailed early but came alive in the
stretch but simply had too much do, still he managed a fourth place finish. His second start in Febuary was the G3 Pineshaft
Handicap at 8.5 furlongs and this time he broke slowly but found room on the rail, then advanced to gamely split horses and go
to the outside to just get up in time for the win. Trainer/kingab will need for this horse to stay in striking distance to have
a chance here but this son of Danehill Dancer has the means to deliver.
RED CAPE-
This horse by Smart Strike earned his way here by impressing trainer/tatty2 with some convincing wins at 3 going on a five
race winning streak from May thru Sept back in 2012. He impressively climbed the ladder from allowance to Stakes to a G3 and
G2, finishing with a win in another Stakes before finally being defeated in the G3 Corvette where he still finished third. His only
start thus far in 2013 was an allowance in Colorado in Febuary where he won easily, jockey D Sturbed had never needing to
go to the whip. He will need to run a big race this Saturday but it could be his lucky day.
DISSECTED-
Heres a horse who seems to have lost his best form of late, but a win in his only start at 5 in a surprizing poly track surface
switch up by trainer/checkmate1 is an eye-opener. It just may have been the confidence booster this G1 winner with nearly
two million dollars in lifetime earnings needed to return to top form. This son of Street Cry’s last win back in August of 2012
was in the G3 Long Acres and he stormed home with a 118 speed rating and a time of 1:33 and 20. If he can fire off a sharp time
this Saturday he just might become one of the richest horses around.
TATTERSALT-
This colt has knows how to win and win consistantly, hes put away the competition like a lumberjack stacking wood. He’s
finished in the money in 13 of 16 starts with 8 being wins. Although he’s already run three times in his 4yr old campaign he
scored wins in two of those, the 8f Ballistic Dirt Mile going wire to wire and the G3 8f Winchester Cap repeating with another
wire to wire win there as well. The second place finish in the Old Cow Dirt Mile was lost by only a neck to hard closing long
shot Stilts. A son of Smart Strike he also doesnt mind an off track and Saturdays race calls for a 75% chance of storms. Hopefully
for bettors he wont be too tired to show his stuff and trainer/fairhaven2 could make a trip to the winners circle. Look for him to
set the early pace if hes on his game.
BOUND FOR BIG D-
This 4yr old colt can sit mid-pack, or stalk the early pace which could be a big advantage in this field of 14. Although his last
win was the Sundays Rule Dirt Mile 8f back in October of 2012, and his only 4yr old start was a rather poor performance in
an allowance race that resulted in a 5th place he still could squeak out a win here. A deep brown son of Eskendereya he’s been
lightly raced thus far and trainer/icbomber7 could have this colt more prepared than it would seem at first glance.
K’S PUNDIT-
Trainer/dahlia’s horse is no stranger to shipping out to races and running well, he spent alot of his 2 and 3yr old seasons in
Japan with a trip to the U.S. for the 8f Alyhonor Dirt Mile Stakes, closing with fierce determination to win. The son of A. P.
Indy then started his 4yr old season with a try at the G3 Khartoum in January, again closing swiftly but settling for a respectable
3rd place in his first Graded attempt. Then he took on an allowance in the UAE winning handily by three lengths. He’ll be a long
shot on race day but he’s had time to adjust to the Dubai track and looks great training.
SICKO’S SONG-
A son of Unbridled’s Song out of the mare Gordie’s Seattle, this 5yr old has been rather inconsistant of late, and his two efforts
to start his campaign this year could have gone better. Seems he has a habit recently of going to the front and fading once they
reach the stretch, this has resulted in 4th place finishes in the Bowling Under Quest Dirt Mile and the Khartoum G3 Challenge.
Trainer/sicko will have to tame his colts need for early speed or he could well burn out under a sizzling pace just to fade. He
could earn a big redemption by running a rated pace Saturday.
COPPER DRAGON-
A challenge awaits this son of Sebring out of the mare Dawgie Girl, his last win came at 3 in Decembers’ Alykurtz Dirt Mile
where he fought his way thru the stretch to the win. This colt also has an allowance win in the slop back in October of 2012
and if race day brings rain it might be the one slight edge trainer/bsbend6 can find to get the colt to the winners circle. He’ll
need the help as his two starts at 4 have been lackluster, with a 7th in the Khartoum Challenge behind many of the same entries
here. The other was a March 13th appearence in the Junior Rule Dirt 8.5 Stakes where he finished a fading 4th.
YALLA YALLA-
A chestnut colt by Galileo out of the mare Dream Forever, this colt will more than likely have to run his biggest race to take
home the win here Saturday. He has won a Stakes race at 2 and 3 but is seeking a major win here, this horse seems to prefer
the shorter distances and has run on both turf and dirt. His graded 4yr old starts have been the Chief Crown Turf Stakes and
the Negative G3 7f neither of which he faired well in. His most recent start was in an allowance and he managed to hold onto
a 2nd place finish with a decent speed figure. Trainer bmr001 needs some luck to get the distance with this colt Saturday.
DEFEND NASU-
This light gray colt by First Defence out of the mare Lyra looks to score his first graded stakes win and will go off quite the
longshot on Saturday. He’s been improving in allowance company with two wins in his late 3yr old campaign as well as
an allowance win this Febuary in an 8.5f outing. His last start was also an allowance in early March and he nearly hung
on for the win. His saving grace could be an off track as well, he won an allowance on a good track at 3 and maybe trainer
brian215 is was hoping for rain on race day.
STREET CROCKPOT-
This son of Street Cry comes in with experience at the Graded race level, hes scored wins at 3 in the 9f K Wad Turf Route and
on dirt in the G3 Swamps Stakes going wire to wire very easily. Then he also picked up a win going back to turf in the 7.5 Tycoon
Contender Turf Special where he stayed near the pace and took over in the last furlong to win. His 4yr old starts were an
allowance on turf to score another easy victory, and then a try at the 9f G2 Scrub on dirt in which the colt finished 6th. Is the
change in surfaces benefiting this colt, trainer/jdtrotter will get an answer on Saturday.
This wraps up the field of 14 as they go for the win in Dubai this Saturday. Will there be an off track that enables a longshot
to run away with the big prize and the savory G2 victory? Only time will tell, best of luck to all entrys and trainers!
