The Cherry Hilton Grade II

Hello everyone and welcome to Newmarket, England where we have this weeks spotlight race for two year old fillies and mares.  We have a small field of five runners in this race, though this is just as winnable from one girl to the next.  Six furlongs is the distance we will run today in a Grade II race on the firm turf.  The purse is and overwhelming 250,000 for the top finisher in this years The Cherry Hilton.  And now everyone let’s meet our ladies. 

1.  Girolabo, (Girolamo X First Samurai X Unbridled’s Song) will lead things off in our post parade today coming in at odds of 5/1.  Owner bobrba1 hopes that a switch from the dirt to the grass will do this girl wonders.  This New York bred started her career off in her home state where she finished 4^th in an fillies only maiden special weight running a speed figure of 66.  She came back to the maiden ranks on the dirt about a month and a half later and won at odds of 8/1 with a speed figure of only a 69.  She will hope the change of surface will be to her liking and she will improve that speed figure at least ten points to have a shot.

2.  Macadamia, (Thunder Gulch X Galileo X Saint Ballado) will come out of gate two at odds of 4/1.  Owner mickbriant hopes that she continues to like the surface change we saw last time out.  In her first ever race, this girl ran on the dirt and faltered in a maiden special weight running a disappointing 52 speed figure.  Not giving up hope, she switched the surfaces and entered another maiden special weight, this time on the firm turf where her speed figure improved a giant 26 SP and she led coast to coast to win the race with a speed figure of 78.  She will look to make it two in a row toady, and make a statement that she is here to stay.

3.  Dancing On, (Dansili X Dynaformer X Kingmambo) is the second favorite in today’s race at odds of 8/5.  Why shouldn’t she be though as she has proven herself in both career races she has ran in.  Her first race was against a near full field of twelve in a maiden special weight where she came roaring back from fifth to take the field by ¾ of a length.  She also ran a speed figure of 70.  She was not to disappoint in the following race though as she improved upon that speed figure after about a month and a half layoff.  Running a 71 speed figure she took on a field of five in a listed stakes and won that to by 1 ½ lengths.  She will be looking to make it three for three in her career today as well as improving speed figure numbers.

4.  Neandra, (Acclamation X Rahy X Storm Bird) is the favorite in today’s race coming into the race with odds of 7/5.  She has conquered every field she has been in but one.  Her first race was wound up being the only second place finish she has had as she lost the race at the wire by ¼ of a length.  Since that February day she has raced three times finishing first in all three races.  A coast to coast win in a maiden special weight where she ran a 74 speed figure, was followed by a race where she came back from third to take a listed stakes field with a speed figure of 80.  Last time out she improved on her speed figure taking another full field of 14 down while leading coast to coast and running a speed figure of 85. 

5.  Wild Concept, (Wild Rush X Persian Bold X Current Concept) will round out today’s field coming into the race with odds of 7/1.  She has just one career race under her saddle, but she showed that she can win as she led coast to coast and took a field of eight maidens by surprise and won at odds of 15/1.  Her speed figure in that race was a good first speed of 78.  She hopes to continue that same success here today as she takes on four other ladies, all of which are a little better tested and have a little better pedigree.  Saying she has no shot at winning though is laughable as this girl has shown she can find her way to the winners circle at odds way above the favorite.
