NWRC Cavalcade Cup Juvenille Fillies
And so, it is the end of October. For boys and girls, this is an exciting time of year. Its the first time they will have the chance to run in a grade I stakes at a distance of a mile or more. For the boys, its a chance to punch a ticket to Kentucky for the Derby and maybe even win. For the girls, its a chance to punch a ticket to Kentucky for the Derby and maybe almost win. It means pretty much nothing, with regards to the Oaks for the girls. Or the boys for that matter. Thats just the way it works. But its an exciting time of year to be a juvenille trainer. Its unfortunate for us that those grade I’s will be occuring many many miles away. For this is the NWRC Cavalcade Cup and not, in fact, the Breeder’s Bowl. Still, there is nothing to say that one or more of these pretty girls won’t be representing the NWRC in Kentucky come next May. Its an exciting time of year to be a juvenille trainer. And this is a big race. And gosh they’re pretty girls.
Your field for the 2005 NWRC Cavalcade Cup Juvenille Fillies are:
#1 I Prefer (11/1) Sadler’s Wells X Kingmambo X Seattle Slew – jimmyv24 – Greg
I Prefer would have a chance of winning this race if she were a whole lot faster than she is. Oh, I’m kidding. You know, there isn’t an entry in this field that doesn’t have a shot. I’m just playing the odds because clearly this horse is being horribly mistrained. I hope Greg gets out of prison soon.
#2 Fast Getaway (19/1) Mtoto X Jade Robbery X Crystal Glitters – albarado – Dave
This horse just might be scary good. And she might just be scary average. But Dave and his brother Dave and his other brother Dave are easy to cheer for. Even if one of them is evil.
#3 Defend (9/1) Refuse To Bend X Lear Fan X What A Pleasure – wistful3 – Laura
Defend finally got her first start on God’s intended surface, last time out, and looked awful awful good. I don’t think its safe to second guess Laura’s training of this pretty girl, though. I learned long ago that its better to try and understand fish than it is to try and understand women. And I don’t understand fish.
#4 Call Me Ishmael (10/1) Northern Afleet X Mari’s Book X Youth – hardnews – Kurt
This horse is clearly the prettiest in the field and is also the fastest. Honestly, I just don’t know why the other horses even bothered to show up. If Kurt lets her give up the victory to someone more unfortunate, surely it will just be yet another sign that the big fella’s heart is two sizes too large. And Kurt didn’t pay me a single dime to write that. Cheapskate.
#5 Tater Nutz (38/1) Yankee Victor X Bold But Valid X Silent Screen – bigtate04 – Terrel
Tater Nutz! I… just wanted to say that. Between you and me, Terrel is on the juice.
#6 Signs Of Life (8/1) Elusive Quality X Swain X Mining – pilot747 – Ken
One of the co-favorites, Signs Of Life could possibly give Ken his first win. Ever. With her second career victory.
#7 Lineball (8/1) Line In The Sand X Deputy Minister X Forli – phantom – Gavin
Lineball is another of the co-favorites in this race and if there is a horse on the milkshake in this race… well thats all I’m saying. Other than Gavin pretty much gets away with murder. Man!
#8 Fred’s Not Dead (15/1) With Approval X Captain Bodgit X Editor’s Note – princessme – Melissa
Her last race looked scary good and it would appear that being trained by a class-cutting baby-snatcher wannabe hasn’t harmed her in any way. I would, of course, apologize for saying this about Melissa if it weren’t all completlely true except for the parts that were made up.
#9 No Matter What (8/1) Seeking The Gold X Silver Deputy X Storm Bird – kobras2 – Chris
No Matter What is the last of the co-favorites and Chris would certainly tell you that the oddsmakers have made a horrible mistake in this. Because I certainly wouldn’t. Unless I had nothing better to do. Actually… I’ve been searching through my old Def Leppard albums and can’t find a single song that even resembles ‘No Matter What’. I seriously doubt Chris has anything to do with this horse.
#10 Blemished (13/1) Perfect Soul X Cryptoclearance X The Minstrel – phonetrick – Jef
The only undefeated filly in this field belongs to Jef who, coincidentally, is also an undefeated filly. I’m just repeating what I hear.
#11 Jahya (13/1) Stravinsky X Mr. Prospector X Danehill – kaif013 – Greg
Jahya is the second entrant in this race for Greg and its beyond me how he can expect to have any success at all using such obscure bloodlines.
#12 Raz (9/1) Pine Bluff X Cozenne X Pleasant Tap – smokey1966 – Chris
Raz has looked awfully good coming into this race and she’s trained by Chris. Not Chris. You know, Chris. I secretly believe that Chris and Chris are twins that were not so much separated at birth as they were from completely different mothers and fathers. And I secretly believe one of them is evil.
#13 Not A Honkey Tonk (13/1) Not Impossible X Carson City X Secretariat – flickaspad – Tommy
If there is going to be a major surprise in this race, and there won’t be, because really, they all have a legitimate shot. But if there is going to be a major surprise in this race, I tell you what, this is one pretty girl. She’s managed by Tommy who secretly wishes his name was Chris and who not so secretly likes buttermilk. A lot.
#14 Sienna Skye (10/1) Sky Mesa X Wild Again X Blushing Groom – skippie – Melissa
Sienna Skye has never finished worse than second and looks awful scary. Speaking of milkshakes…
#15 Bank Robber (18/1) Anabaa X Herbager X Apalachee – ladyeve2 – Arnie
Bank Robber has displayed an entirely satisfactory complete non-affinity to that horrid green turfy stuff and returns to God’s intended surface looking more than a bit dangerous. She is trained by Arnie who hasn’t let flunking out of divinity school slow him down one bit.
#16 Ms. Cardiac T (12/1) Theatrical X Mr. Prospector X Caro – stakes – Ted
Rounding out the field is Ms. Cardiac who is the one horse in this field that has no chance. Forget what I said earlier about every horse having a chance. I lied. A bit. No, the deal that Ted signed with the devil expires on Friday. A shame really.
And thats it! Thats your field for the 2005 Cavalcade Cup Juvenille Fillies! And they all have a shot! (Yes, ALL!) Who’s going to win? Who cares! Like I’d tip my hand in the NWRC Cavalcade Cup Handicapping contest… (I’m just going to copy Chris’ answers. But don’t tell him)
Go girls!
Go! Go! Go!
