Let me know if anyone wants the splits by sex and surface for 2yo, 3yo, 4yo+ or all ages.

Is there a significant difference in 2yo speeds by sex or surface?

There can be, but I haven’t looked that far into the September data yet.

I don’t know if it’s cooincidental, but since the new race coding started (week ending Sunday September 15th), there has only been one horse that has broken the 120 SP mark, as you can see from Zapspride’s Top 25 Speed posts — and indeed the top SP each week has been 3 or 4 points below that in the other 5 weeks. For the past 8 years there has barely been a week without at least one 120+ SP runner, usually there being several such per week.

    Any thoughts, anyone?

I’ve noticed this too. There aren’t too many able to run that fast, so it could just be a downspell with the cream of the crop not running 100%.

But it does seem odd to hold up this long,

Comparing the 4+ winning speeds is often the best comparison IMO as they hold steady, unlike the 2yo and 3yo speeds as the elite keep improving.

Presumably this will start to show up in your graphs beerkeg — I haven’t checked how it has affected the 3yos and 2yos.

Its hard to compare the 2yo speeds since the updates as they are improving naturally.

If there’s enough interest I might be able to track down prior year winning speeds for comparison.
