G3, The Umbria: A small field looks for a 6f win on the turf in Italy.

As I was already here in Italy previewing another race I happened upon this race that is also on the card on Saturday. The G3, The Umbria will be a race at the distance of six furlongs for 3 year old and older horses on the turf. The turf looks good for this race and will be listed as Firm Turf at post time. The race only drew a short field of seven horses. The field looks pretty good for this race and consists of only one prior Graded winner. The odds have been set and the post positions have been drawn. So let us now take a quick preview of the field of horses that will run in the G3, The Unbria here in Italy.

This seven year old Bay Gelding sired by Shocking is coming out of a long list of Claimer races of which he has not shown many good performances as of late. He will be going off at 85/1 here in the morning line and I see the concerns that the odds makers have looked at closely for this race. His speed ratings on the Claiming circuit have been in the 70’s which will not be enough to get him to the boards in this race. His last outing came in the Czech Republic when her ran 4.5 furlongs in a $50,000 Claimer. He crossed the wire in a disappointing seventh. The owner has called upon jockey, D Coker who is a local jockey here in Italy. They will head out to their post on Saturday to the cheers of an excited crowd.

This five year old Bay Gelding is sired by Hallucinate. He too has been running in Claimer races and is taking a big jump in Class to race here on Saturday. He has done fairly well for his owner in the Claimers, but one must question if he has the goods to come out of these low level races to take on this field. His last race was of extreme disappointment when on 09/06/2020 he ran 6 furlongs in Belgium in a $17,500 Local Claiming race. He must have had some kind equipment issue as he only ran a 45 speed rating when we had seen much better in prior races. I think you have to throw that race out the window and not use it as a factor as to this horses real ability. Jockey, M Bia has been called to come in from the Czech Republic to come in and take the mount up top for this race. This pair will be headed out to their gate draw to the sounds of a cheering crowd.

This seven year old Bay Horse sired by Worthadd will be going off as the morning line favorite in this race. He has had two trips to the board in Graded races this year and is in the hunt to get a trip to the winners circle. His last couple of races he has not shown his best performances and thus needs to prove that he still wants to compete at this level. His last race came in Belgium on 09/11/2020 when he went 7 furlongs in a Listed Stake, Basaltic Turf Sprint. He just did not have a good race and when he crossed the wire he found himself back in fifth place. The owner has placed the call to jockey, D Jacobsson who will be coming in from Sweden to take to the irons in this race. This pair will be headed out at post time representing the British And Nordic Racing Club residency.

This four year old Bay Gelding is sired by Invincible Spirit. He has made a couple of Graded attempts in the past but they have not been successful for him. He is back to try again and has shown he does not give up. His last trip to the track came on 09/26/2020 in Surrey when he went 6 furlongs in the G2, The Drummer Boy. He started out fairly well when he broke from the gate, but by the third call he found himself falling back and not able to keep up with the other horses in that race. At the finish he crossed the wire in a disappointing seventh over nine lengths back. The owner has placed the call to Denmark to find jockey, M Sheridan ready to come in and take to the saddle with his horse. This pairing will be headed out to the turf on Saturday to represent the Universal Racing Club residency.

This 5/1 choice in the morning line is a Bay Colt sired by Empire Maker. He does have prior Graded experience but has never found a trip to the boards in those prior Graded attempts. He has run on both the dirt and turf surfaces in his career, with his last two starts both coming on the grass. In his last trip to the track on 10/10/2020 he ran a distance of 6.5 furlongs in China in a $24,300 NW3L Allowance. He traveled just off the lead and when asked to pick it up at the third call he responded and went on to win by two lengths. The owner has went out and called upon the services of jockey, S L Ledwith from Dubai to come in for this race and take to the mount up top. This horse responded well to the crack of a snappy whip in his last race and the jockey should take note of that when they break from the gate to the sounds of a cheering crowd.

This five year old Bay Horse is sired by Sea The Stars and is out of HOF mare, Botwisted. I have had the pleasure of seeing this horse race in the past. He can be a head turner and knows how to cover a lot of turf quickly when he is on his game. His last outing however he did not show up with one of his best of performances. He ran on 10/10/2020 in Sweden going 6 furlongs in the G3, Itsabrahma Memorial. He was staying close in this race, but at the third call he fell off a little and ended up crossing the wire back in sixth. He will need to show a little more effort in this race if he wished to find another Graded win. The owner has put in the call to jockey, J Ledwith who will be coming in from Paris to take to the saddle and guide this horse across the turf on Saturday. They will be headed out in the post parade representing the Empire State Racing residency.

Rounding out the field will be this five year old Bay Horse that is sired by Teofilo. This horse is a prior Stakes winner, but has never found the boards in his multiple Graded attempts. He has a shot of breaking that bad omen here in Italy if he gets a good blessing from the Vatican. His last trip to the track came on 06/21/2020 in Newmarket when he traveled 6 furlongs in the G3, The Chipchaser. He was looking pretty good in this race as he was stalking just off the lead. But in the stretch run he was not able to keep up and crossed the wire in fifth but only three lengths back. The owner has put in a call to Berkshire to find jockey, P Harzheim willing and ready to come in and take the mount. They will be headed out at post time to their gate draw to the cheers of an excited crowd.

4-Bonejack Horseman: He has been a disappointment in his last two races and he needs to show improvement. He is only going off at 7/1 but he looks like a good choice to put on some exotic tickets for this race. Let’s give him a shot to see what he can do.
