The Double F Memorial
Grade I / Group 1*CPU - Purse : $750,000
Restricted to 3 Year Olds and Older
6 Furlongs | ~1200 Meters | Three Quarters of a Mile Fast Dirt
This will be my first attempt in previewing a race with the new BTB. I am having high hopes for success. I have chosen The Double F Memorial which is running Saturday in New Jersey. The entries for this race look very close and competitive. Finding the winner will be tough when you go place your bets at the betting window. They will be fighting in this 6 furlong sprint race for a Grade 1 win to add to the trophy case and a trip to the winners circle to get their picture taken. I have had time to take a look at the track and they have it listed to be Fast Dirt come race time. There is a full field of fourteen horses that have entered to take this trip by their owners. The odds makers have studied the field and have their morning line posted and the horses post positions have been drawn. Let us take a preview and see how this field matches up for the running of The Double F Memorial.
Post Position: 1
Horse/Odds: Detestable 7/1
Sire: Into Mischief
Jockey: J Piotrowski
This four year old Bay colt has proven to be a G3 winner and has collected over one million in earnings. He has been racing very competitively in his recent starts. He ran on 09/28/2019 in California in the G1, The Old Name stakes where he put in a nice closing effort and placed 2nd in that race. He came back to run a Listed Stake, Breeze Dautumne Dirt Memorial on 11/02/2019 where again he was 2nd at the wire with another late effort but missed the wire just ¼ lengths off. The owner puts in the call to jockey, J Piotrowski out of Pennsylvania to take the ride with his horse when the head to the gates to represent the Pastures of Green residency.
Post Position: 2
Horse/Odds: Gold Zone 27/1
Sire: Scratch Bred (AWESOME AGAIN x STORM CAT x DANZIG)
Jockey: GD Mate
This three year old Bay colt has not put in his best of performances this season and has not seen his name on the boards since back in January when he won the G3, The Legoland. Since that race he has been struggling at the Graded level of which he has run all his races this season. The horse will see a familiar jockey in GD Mate riding up top that will be flying in from New Zealand to take the mount and bring his bag of tricks to keep this horse completive and close or at the front when they leave the gate. A good post draw should be favorable for this colt due to running style. They will be going out on Saturday to represent DelPenn National residency.
Post Position: 3
Horse/Odds: Icomewiththewicked 10/1
Jockey: E Banner
This four year old Brown colt will have jockey, E Banner in the saddle when they make way to the track on Saturday. E Banner is an unfamiliar jockey to this horse but this jockey will have a lot of horse to work with. This colt in his last trip to the track on 10/27/2019 in Kentucky ran in a Listed Stakes, Freedom Hall Dirt Dash going 6 furlongs on a fast track. He closed nicely to take the wire 1st by a ½ length when making a late rally down the stretch. He has made several Graded attempts in the past which were unsuccessful this season. This horse looks like he has good potential, but I find concern in this big jump in Class which maybe too big for him at this time. He will be heading to track come Saturday representing the GR Simsters residency.
Post Position: 4
Horse/Odds: Katzenmoyer 13/1
Sire: Pass Rush
Jockey: H Artack
This five year old Bay gelding had a nice run in his last trip to the track on 10/05/2019 in Kentucky. He went 6 furlongs in the G3, Scotsdale BB Stakes and made a deep close where he picked off horse coming from as far back as thirteenth to close for a 1 length win at the wire putting in a 112 speed rating. In twenty five lifetime starts he has only missed the boards five times. He gets jockey, H Artack from out of Turkey in the saddle for this trip. Look for this horse to make a late charge for the wire when he goes out representing the Empire State Racing residency.
Post Position: 5
Horse/Odds: Might And Thunder 14/1
Jockey: T Brewer
This G2 winning Bay gelding made a good last trip to the track in Kentucky on 10/13/2019 when he went 7 furlongs in the G3, The Select Bud. He made a run at the 3rd call and soon took control and led the way to the wire to get up for a 1 ½ length win with a nice 116 speed rating in that race. He will have a familiar jockey in T Brewer from Hong Kong. They paired up together in an unsuccessful attempt in the G1, The Foregone stake. This horse has been running well and has continued to improve on his speed ratings in his last few trips to the track. He tends to be a late closer that does not like off tracks but he will be getting a Fast Dirt track to run on for this race which he likes. If he can keep up that improving speed rating for this race he could be a threat to watch for when he heads to the gate to represent the Universal Racing Club residency.
Post Position: 6
Horse/Odds: Bernardini Cat 8/1
Sire: Scratch Bred: (BERNARDINI x STORM CAT x SEEKING THE GOLD)
Jockey: F Gossett
This five year old Bay horse is a prior G2 winner who took to the track in his last outing in California on 09/28/2019 in the G1, The Old Name stakes. He failed to rise to the occasion after coming off a G3 win, Middle Of Nowhere stakes where he won with a 112 speed rating. In his last race in that G1 attempt at 6 furlongs he was off his game and showed up a disappointing 10th with a drop in speed to 104. His owner has contracted with jockey, F Gossett from California to take to the irons with his horse for Saturday’s race who will need attempt to get a good performance out of this horse and keep him in contention. This horse likes to linger up front and could challenge for the lead early.
Post Position: 7
Horse/Odds: Culture Critic 8/1
Sire: Scratch Bred (GIANT'S CAUSEWAY x SEATTLE SLEW x ALYDAR)
Jockey: W McClendon
In this six year old Chestnut horses most recent trips to the track he has been running at 7 furlongs and those trips have not been kind to him for the exception of an Allowance win at that distance back in July. He steps back down to run at 6 furlongs which this horse may better enjoy as he has shown better performances in the past running 6 furlongs. He last ran on 10/26/2019 in New York in the G3, The Strong Leader stakes when he had jockey, W McClendon from Maryland in the saddle who will be riding him again for this race. He failed to perform in that race and showed up a disappointing 12th at the wire. They will be representing the Hispano Parlante residency at post time.
Post Position: 8
Horse/Odds: Michael’s Code 13/1
Sire: Scratch Bred (HONOR CODE x UNBRIDLED'S SONG x CAPOTE)
Jockey: F Mac
Jockey, F Mac from Michigan has been contracted to ride up top of this four year old Grey gelding which is a prior GP badge earner. He has run his last two races at 6 furlongs and showed up with a couple of nice closing attempts that picked up wins for him. His last outing was on 10/12/2019 in a Listed Stakes, Jamie Likes Spoons stakes in Brazil. He started making up ground after the second call in that race and found himself winning by 1 length at the wire with a 113 speed rating. He will be another horse in this field that likes to make moves from way back at the second call and try to pick off some horses. They will be headed to the gates on Saturday representing the Only Stayers residency.
Post Position: 9
Horse/Odds: Who Nose Mack 8/1
Sire: Scratch Bred (DADDY NOSE BEST x SAINT BALLADO x ACK ACK)
Jockey: J Maloney
This Bay colt put in a nice performance his last trip out in New York on 09/26/2019 in the G1, The Iceberg stakes at a distance of 6 furlongs. He held his position throughout that race with the same jockey, J Maloney from out of West Virginia in the saddle. They showed up at the wire together in 2nd just missing by a head to a late closer and lost with a nice 116 speed rating. This GP badge earning may be hungry for a win here on Saturday and should be watched up front by the other horses in this race as to not let this one get away from them as he likes running fast and up front in his best outings. This team will be going out at post time to represent the Elite Racing Club.
Post Position: 10
Horse/Odds: Thehistoryofcadet 7/1
Sire: Malibu Moon
Jockey: P Jetter
This 6 year old Bay horse is out of HOF, G1 winning mare Otto History. However, in this horse last three trips to the track he has failed to hit the boards, but he still remains a threat to take this race if the late closers fail to keep up with this front runner. He last ran on 09/28/2019 in California in the G1, The Old Name stakes where he could not find his position with a lingered start out of what should have been a favorable gate. He showed up 4th in that race and was 3 lengths back at the wire. Jockey, P Jetter from Ireland rode him in that race and will be in the saddle again with this horse at post time. They will be headed out to the gates representing the Empire State Racing residency.
Post Position: 11
Horse/Odds: Super Snitz 40/1
Jockey: P Bangs
This G3 badge earning, three year old Bay colt picked up that trophy in his last outing in Kentucky on 09/28/2019 traveling 6 furlongs in the G3, Bluegrass Cup Sprint with a 111 speed rating. His owner brings in jockey, P Bangs from New South Wales who is unfamiliar with this horse and running style, but I am sure he has been receiving instructions from the owner. This horse tends to like it up front and unfortunately he draws one of the outside gates from which to launch and try to get into a competitive position early. The odds makers were not kind to this horse and have made him their longest choice in the field. They will be going out to travel the track representing the GR Simsters.
Post Position: 12
Horse/Odds: Leaderof Rebels 6/1
Sire: Pioneerof The Nile
Jockey: K Banner
This G1 badge earner is a Bay gelding that will be headed to the gate at post time as the morning line favorite per the odds makers. This horse put up his top speed rating of 119 in August of this year in the G1, The Foregone stakes with jockey, K Banner from Pennsylvania riding that day up top. They pair up together for this race on Saturday and try to repeat their success together. In this horses last outing on 11/02/2019 he ran in the G1, Breeders’ Bowl Sprint on a fairly short rest and was a disappointing 7th at the wire. He is coming into this race with another short rest. This concerns me a little coming in on back to back short rests, but on the other hand this horse has successfully come in off a short rest before and cleaned house. They will be head out at post time to represent the GR Simsters residency.
Post Position: 13
Horse/Odds: Good Grades Cadet 7/1
Jockey: T Loesch
The Cadet master stables find another Graded winning horse in his stables to bring to this event on Saturday. This five year old Bay gelding is a prior G3 badge earner that has had difficulty keeping up at the Graded levels in his most recent attempts. He has only hit the boards twice this season and one of those trips to the boards came in his last outing on 10/06/2019 in California in a Listed Stakes, Zafonic Prospect stakes traveling 6 furlongs. He made a deep closing effort to cross the wire in 3rd and was 2 lengths back. He gets a familiar jockey for this trip on Saturday in T Loesch from South Africa. He will need to bring his stiff whip to get this horse to fire like this horse did back in October of last year in The Strong Leader stakes. They will be heading out at post time to represent the Empire State Racing residency.
Post Position: 14
Horse/Odds: Night Scat Again 15/1
Sire: Midnight Lute
Jockey: T Small
The Stockswami master stables also find another contender to enter here in The Double F Memorial on Saturday. This Bay colt is a GP badge earner that has had a rough year and has not hit the boards all season. His best outing this season came in his last trip to the track going 7 furlongs on an off track in Michigan in a Listed Stakes, Gourmet Lady stakes on 10/09/2019. The owner puts in a call to jockey, T Small from Germany to take the trip with his horse on Saturday. They will be coming out of the far outside gate which this horse could find issue as a front runner that will be using a lot of gas to try and get into a contending position in this race.
Good luck to all horses and owners. Have fun picking your winners!
Skippy’s Watch List
Who Nose Mack: Ran well in his last trip to the track with a 116 speed rating. I think he could be in the mix.
Might And Thunder: Had a good outing last time out with a 116 speed rating. If he brings that speed with him he should be watch.
Detestable: Has shown up the groomsman in his last two outings. He looks hungry for a win.
