$80000 GAL PHONING CAP Stakes

A field of fourteen promising two year olds will enter the starting gate of the South Africa Racecourse in the $80000 GAL PHONING CAP Stakes.  The 10th race feature will be run at a distance of one mile over the Dirt Course.  The race features top 2 year olds from around the world with the highly regarded THIRD TIME LUCKY(NZ) and top challenger COREY’S MISSION.  Both enter this event as co-favorites against a field of talented hopefuls.

Breaking from the rail, bringing an impressive five wins in nine lifetime starts into his 7th consecutive Stakes appearance, is rharfbeam’s COREY’S MISSION.  The 2yo son of Glitterman out of a Broad Brush mare, after careful planning by his connections, makes his first start around two-turns coming off a gate to wire victory in the INEBRIATED POD Challenge Stakes over this very same race course.  The top money earner of the field, with two Stakes victories to his credit, is the morning line co-favorite at 4-1, and if this promising colt runs to his pedigree, should have little trouble handling the extra turn…main threat

Looking for his 1st Stakes victory in his 3rd Stakes appearance is roosters04 HIGH PRICE(IRE).  The 2yo High Chaparral(IRE) offspring from a Blushing Groom(FR) x Mill Reef mare exudes stamina and showed just how strong he can be when he drew off by two to take an Allowance NW3L in his first start around two-turns LTO in Ireland, with an eye-catching 89 SP figure.  A perfect 2-2 since switched to the dirt, this imposing juvenile just might be that good…dangerous

Making his 1st Stakes appearance in only his 3rd career start is ozsteve’s BLUE SMARTIES(ARG).  This 2yo Candy Ride(ARG) colt impressed favorably at first asking when he broke his maiden at 5 furlongs before battling every step of the way LTO in his first trip at one mile finishing up 3rd with an 80 SP figure.  The Argentinean bred faces a tough task this week taking on experienced rivals and could be hard pressed to compete this time around at this level…learn more today

Making his 4th consecutive Stakes appearance is outthere’s DYNAMITE SECRET.  The 2yo Dynaformer progeny comes off a pair of Graded Stakes Turf outings finishing a solid 4th in the G-3 Bad Deal Stakes at 7 furlongs before tiring badly in the G.S.R. Diamond LTO in his first trip around two-turns.  Returning to the dirt for this affair, connections are hoping the switch to the main track serves as a wake up call…your call

Hoping for his 1st Stakes victory in his 2nd Open Stakes appearance is enforced’s PEDRO UNLEASHED(IRE).  The well bred son of Theatrical(IRE) was a maiden winner three back when he closed strongly over the Turf Course at 6 furlongs at Germany Race Course before finishing far back in his 1st Open stakes appearance in the TEX RANSOM Bonanza.  Finishing 2nd LTO with a strong stretch drive in his first dirt appearance at 7 ½ furlongs should have this 2yo colt set for an improved effort this time around…learn more today

Returning to the Dirt Course, hoping to notch his first Stakes triumph is jaq1122’s PRAY FOR RAIN.  Beaten more than 30 lengths in his only Stakes appearance, connections return to the dirt with this son of Fred Astaire’s in his first try around two-turns.  Despite three wins in nine starts, this 2yo will have his work cut out for himself racing against more established rivals…look elsewhere

Making his 1st Stakes appearance is ruby5’s TREMPOREYEV.  The 2yo Trempolino colt is from a Stakes winning Nureyev mare and half brother to the Stakes winning MADDOX.  The pace setting colt broke his maiden in wire to wire fashion around two turns in Portugal LTO while posting his 2nd consecutive 80 SP figure for a mile.  Despite a pair of solid efforts, this promising colt takes a giant leap in class and would need a huge effort to compete in here…tab for later

Making a 4th Straight Stakes appearance is dukesn’s MATT CAM.  The Smart Strike offspring from a Dynaformer x Theatrical(IRE) mare finished up strongly to win the STORM REBEL Special two races back before closing for 3rd in the PROJECT SOAR Challenge LTO.  Making his 1st start around two turns, there is no doubt this colt has enough bottom to handle the added distance and could surprise at generous odds…dangerous

Making his 1st Stakes appearance for the outsider stable is KING OF HUNKS(IRE).  The 2yo King of Kings(IRE) colt found new life LTO when switched to the dirt for the first time with an impressive 2 length maiden victory with an 84 SP figure for the mile.  Taking a huge jump in class, this colt improved 20 points when switched to the dirt and has a running style that could benefit him in this affair.  Might be worth a $2 wager at odds of 17-1…spices up the exotics

Another looking for Stakes victory number one is reeser’s NUNFORYU.  The 2yo son of Pulpit from a multi Stakes winning Miswaki mare was impressive in his last start when he closed boldly down the lane to take an Allowance NW3L race LTO at a distance of 7 ½ furlongs.  Dam was a multiple Stakes winner from 14 -16 furlongs on the Turf, so the added distance won’t hurt this guys chances.  Expect a sharp effort from this colt, but keep a keen eye out for when the races get longer and he can show off what he is really bred to do…might surprise

Making his 1st Stakes appearance in only his 3rd career start is jarrod2’s AZROC SARE CHARTED(AUS).  The Clang(AUS) offspring enters this race off an impressive maiden victory LTO when he won a 6-furlong dirt sprint at New South Wales.  Lack of experience will get the better of him against this field, but if you are willing to take a chance you will get paid off to the sweet tune of 40-1…pass

Entering the field off a pair of Graded stakes performances, looking for his 1st stakes victory is scary’s THIRD TIME LUCKY(NZ).  The 2yo Octagonal(NZ) progeny served notice when 2nd two races back in the G-3 Tricky Delight’s Special at a mile before finishing four lengths short of making the Breeders Bowl field behind Breeders Bowl starters HALF A WORLD AWAY, VIRTUOSO and HEAVENS DOOR.  This impressive New Zealand bred meets no such resistance in this field and should find his way to the winner’s circle this time around…much the best

Making his Stakes debut off of a strong Allowance outing is cooma1’s DR.KINGSHIFT.  The 2yo Monarchos colt out of a Night Shift x Danzig mare has won two of his three career starts, the last a solid performance in an Allowance test for NW2L race in Japan.  Another of many in this field trying to make a name for themselves at the next level but may fall short despite a solid two-turn effort…maybe next time

Breaking from the outside in his inaugural Stakes feature is mofofarms’ THE CUTTING EDGE.  Recent maiden winner from The Cliff’s Edge out of a Cozzene mare will have more than his share of work cut out for him despite coming into this race off back-to-back wins, the latter a resounding effort at 7 ½ furlongs over the Nebraska oval.  Must overcome the outside post while giving way to more experienced rivals…can’t recommend
