The $1,000,000 Grade I Futurity

A full field of fourteen two year old colts will enter the Rising Sun starting gate for the third running $1,000,000 Grade I Futurity.  The feature will be run at a distance of One mile over the Turf Course.

Previous winners include desperado’s 2009 winner THAT LONSOME SONG(KY) who used the G2 International to springboard to victory in the Futurity while shaghar’s 2010 winner BLAST OFF(AUS) took a second place finish if the Breeder’s Bowl Juvenile Turf to launch to the Rising Sun winner’s circle.

WHAT A TRICKSTER(KY) – Despite winning only one race in his career, the two year old Bernardini colt representing the baggio stables, has turned in three consecutive solid performance in graded competition, the last a third place finish in the ten furlong G-1 Saint Cloud.  Oddly enough, lone win came over a sloppy dirt course, but the turn back to a mile should have him closer today and closing late…might surprise

DISTORTANET(AUS) – Hussonet colt suffered a setback in the G-1 Breeder’s Bowl Juvenile Turf finishing a distant 12th after capturing the G3 Summertime in Ontario prior to that start.  Doesn’t get any easier with these for the artism trained colt and would have to run a new top to compete on Saturday…chance if fit

BUDA DEL SOL(AUS) – first half of the topicount trained entry, the Redoute’s Choice(AUS) bred colt has taken to the turf racing since moving over, but registering  only a maiden win in his seven starts will likely work against this talented colt’s chances despite a hard fought third place finish in the G1 High Flyer  last time out.  Compromised by more experienced rivals, this Aussie bred might have to settle for a lesser share…must show more

TEO’S BRILLIANT(IRE) –  Teofilo bred colt wearing the colors of the jacklad stables is another that comes into this race with just a maiden victory to support its’ case.  Third in the G-1 Breeder’s Bowl Juvenile Turf, the talented Irish bred will have to overcome early pressure and has been unable to hold off his rivals after gaining the lead in four of his last five starts.  Can’t dismiss that 98 speed figure in the Breeder’s Bowl, but will that be enough to get him over the top this time around…must not falter

YEAH THAT’S RIGHT(FR) – winner of three of six including the Land Of Light Turf Juvenile last time out, the fabman trained son of Vettori(IRE) looks to make his second start against graded competition, the first a 2nd place finish in the G2 Wooden Reserve where he gave up the lead in the final stages of the race.  Never out of the money in six starts, the French bred colt must be at his best in a field that showcases six graded winners…happy with part

M.A.S.H(IRE) – racing for the magoo and wispa venture, the Dylan Thomas(IRE) colt takes a three race win streak into Saturday’s feature, the last a win in the G1 High Flyer Stakes in his stakes debut.  Undefeated at this distance, this Irish bred colt sits a perfect trip and could be around to pick up the pieces if the race falls apart. Like what I see so far, but could bounce off that last effort…might be this good

LORENZO(ENG) – second half of the topicount entry, the Medicean(IRE) bred two year old is the third stakes winner and second graded winner from the open mare Danzing Daisy.  Winner of four of six including the G2 Royal Dodge the capable ENG bred colt carried a three race win streak into the Breeder’s Bowl Turf Juvenile, but found himself too back with too much left to do and came up empty in the Fall Classic.  Look for his connections to keep him closer this time around as they hope for a different result this time around…upset chance

ARLEQUIN(KY) –  Rock Hard Ten colt takes to the lawn for the pato5 stables.  First or second in his last five starts including a win in his two turn debut in the Woette’s Delight Turf Juvenile last time out, the promising KY bred will take on graded competition for the first time hoping to contend in the early going and find something left to get to the wire ahead of the rest.  Will need a lifetime best, but this colt has been doing that with every start…bettor’s chance

EVEN THE COUNT(KY) – was hard on lordpye’s runner in my last article, but it looks like the pyemaster has the real deal in this two year old son of Galileo(IRE).  First or second in his last six starts, the Irish bred colt was second in the G3 Summertime before finishing runner-up again in the G1 High Flyer Stakes last time out.  Won’t get away with those speed figures here on Saturday, but look for this colt to improve accordingly and turn the tables on rivals DISTORTANET(AUS) and M.A.S.H(IRE) respectively…dangerous

BOHEMIAN MERCURY(IRE) – the donny beisbol trained two year old colt out of Galileo(IRE) is coming off an outstanding effort in the G1 Duetobust Stakes last time out, and boasts a sensational score in the G1 Firebird, but it’s his start in the G2 Royal Dodge going the mile that has me hedging my bet on this two-time Grade One winner.  That race may have been an anomaly or the result of a bounce off The Firebird, but it gnaws at me like a sore tooth.  I’m going to pass and regret it later but I caution the rest of you who follow my train of thought.  This could very well be the best horse in the field…your call

MAKE IT SO RYRY(JPN) – is a two year old Commands(AUS) colt from the cothill stables.  The first stakes winner of three from then graded stakes winning mare MOVIE IN TUX RYRY(IRE), winner of over $800k lifetime.  This talented Aus bred has never been off the board in seven career starts and has four wins including the G2 International at this distance last time out.  Expect this colt to battle to the wire, and if any horse is going to get to the wire ahead of him they are going to have to earn it…one to beat

STREET DROPOUT(KY) – Lemon Drop Kid colt representing the lgbost stables turned in a solid effort last time out in the ten furlong Saint Cloud where he finished second with a solid 93 speed figure.  Turning back to a mile expect this KY bred to improve off that effort and make a solid stretch run to the finish line…don’t overlook

IMPERIAL CRISIS(KY) – is the gipper trained Arch colt and first offspring of the stakes winning mare ROCK ALL NIGHT(JPN).  Winner of three of six starts, the precocious KY bred caught the attention of the racing world with his first place finish in the G1 Blue Diamond Road.  Didn’t fare well around two turns in both starts; passing tired horses in the G2 Champagne three back, following it up with mild run at the leaders in the G1 Breeder’s Bowl Juvenile Turf last time out.  Can’t throw out any horse with that kind of wallet, but I’d need to see more for a full endorsement…chance off best

ZIP IT DIXIE(AUS) – Musket(AUS) colt from the timeless connections of the murray2 stables, the AUS bred two year old certainly found his niche when switched to the turf in his fifth career start and hasn’t been off the board in three tries since. He won his stakes debut in the Pepper King Turf Juvenile before finishing third in the G3 Philanthropist last time out.  If there’s a dark horse (no pun intended) in this field you found him here…worth a wager
