Baby girls take the stage here in Ohio all looking to make a name for themselves. The Grade 3 Buckeye Debutante run over the sprint distance of six furlongs and which carries a purse of $150,000 brings that opportunity of name recognition for these fillies. In many instances these young ladies will be making their stakes debuts with the eyes on bigger and better and longer races down the road but they need to start somewhere. Is a future star in this field? With six of the seven entrants listed between 3 1/2-1 and 4-1 it makes for a very difficult race to handicap as the field is very evenly matched. let’s take a look at the field:

On the rail and going for Novanora stables we have APPEAL TO SEATTLE. This filly by Successful Appeal and out of the multiple stakes winning Storm Cat mare has five siblings to race of which three are stakes placed. A little short in her debut, she was anything but second out when putting away a solid field of maidens in NY while earning a solid number of 77. Haling from a proven stakes family, APPEAL TO SEATTLE should have no problem stepping into this class herself though taking on winners for the first time is always a difficult challenge.

 

Going forward in post number two is WOOD STALKER. This homebred daughter of Bluegrass Cat races in the colors of WindWard Farms.She makes already her sixth career start having won three and finishing in the money in all five tries. WOOD STALKER is Grade 3 placed having finished a good third in the “Sorgento” out in California last time out. She achieved her top number of 81 two starts back and took a slight step back last out. This filly has the all important graded experience but think she must take a step forward to take home the top prize.

 

SNEAKY TRICK will break from stall number three for trainer Deelynette. This is another daughter of Bluegrass Cat, this one out of the Kingmambo mare Foxy Seattle. She has eight siblings of which three are stakes placed including multiple graded placed and $247k earner Sindee Slew. SNEAKY TRICK won her debut nicely in ew Jersey before tiring late in a third place effort in a first level allowance try. The winner of her last came back to win the “Sorgento” and this filly was only beaten 1 1/2 lengths by that one. SNEAKY TRICK comes from a strong family and has run well enough to make an impact here with another step forward.

 

Next in line Oneworld stables RUSHFORLOVE. Sired by Not For Love and out of the stakes placed mare Rushingwind, she is a sibling to multiple stakes winner and Grade 2 placed $378k earner Prize Rush. RUSHFORLOVE is already multiple stakes placed herself finishing third in the “Pregnant Fax” two starts back and second in the “Golf Ball Juvenile” against males last time out. She did lose as the odds on choice last time out but that may have been the cutback to five furlongs when her late kick just fell short. RUSHFORLOVE has stakes experience and can take a move forward here which makes her a big contender.

 

The longest shot in the field, the Tennessee bred LOUISIANA RIDGE is in the fifth spot. This homebred daughter of Louisiana Lightnin goes post ward for M & J stables. A debut winner of a local bred race back in May, LOUISIANA RIDGE  next finished second in back to back allowance contests before testing graded waters in the “Schoolerville” last time out. That test did not go as planned as she was thoroughly trounced in that race.LOUISIANA RIDGE’s top speed figure of 71 is a bit below these and she will need to take a big step forward to compete here.

 

MEDULLA OBLONGATA will be loaded in for Casino Racing in post position six. This filly is sired by Medaglia D’Oro and out of the stakes winning Awesome Again mare, Pentagram. MEDULLA OBLONGATA ventures out of Eastern Kentucky for the first time after making all three career starts there in which she won twice. A debut winner at the end of April, she failed to fire second out but rebounded nicely with a smart win over a short field last time out. MEDULLA OBLONGATA does make her stakes debut which is tough but she has beaten winners and earned a speed figure of 81 in that effort which makes her a big contender with a similar try today.

 

MAKE IT RIGHT will round out this field of seven for Shamrock Stables. By Midshipman and out of the Elusive Quality mare White Squall, MAKE IT RIGHT has a nice pedigree and it showed already with a fine third place finish in the Grade 3 “Shut Yer Lips Juvenile” last time out. Running third in her debut back in early March she then compiled back to back allowance wins at this distance in Illinois before the Grade 3 placing last out at just under a mile. MAKE IT RIGHT does have talent but the cut back in distance may be a bit of a concern. Her speed figure of 83 tops this field and anywhere near that would make her a threat to get the top prize.

 

Well there you have it, the field is just as evenly matched as the odds makers made the line. Who can step up and move forward? There are no real overlays to bet and there are no real live long shots (sorry LOUISIANA RIDGE). This should be a fun a fun race to watch. While I will not be betting I will still make my selections for this race.

 

SNEAKY TRICK is very interesting having been so close to the next out “Sorgento” winner. She gets a bit of time off and can take a big step forward to claim the top prize. No top jock took the mount which is a slight cause for concern but its my wife’s horse and I live with her so I better pick her horse.
