A Guide to the Wonderful World of Residencies
********Guide to the Wonderful World of Residencies********
So you’ve got a stable full of hopefuls. You know how to enter. You know how to race.
But then this ‘residency’ subject comes up.
What is this?
If you’re one of the not-so-adaptive game players out there, this tutorial was specifically written to be your Guide to the Wonderful World of Residencies.
After a few weeks of game play, on average, inexperienced players begin to ponder: Why aren’t my horses winning? How come other players can breeze through a race at least five lengths ahead? What am I doing wrong?
These questions are slightly subjective. In reality, you might not be doing anything wrong at all! See there are these people in the game called ‘experts’ who have been… well, let’s say ‘around’. They have enough wins and prestige to earn ‘credits’ and breed amazing horses.
“Alright, now we know that. And this relates to residencies how?”
Simple. Residencies are places where breeders can congregate and share information and knowledge about various items of the game. This information can and, as you discover residencies, will span from something as simple as how to determine which races to enter which horses in to a subject as complex as to which sires, dam sires, and dam’s dam sires to breed to receive optimal results in selected races.
The intriguing element of residencies is players from all ages and experience levels participate. If your new to the game and have some basic questions, go to the forums! Ask around, and see where you end up. Say that you were entering races with your horses, and although doing well, were not doing as you would like. As we discussed earlier, your problems may be related to having an insufficient amount of credits for the breeding process. The problem unanimously receives the same question: And we get these credits… how?
This leads us to the next essential aspect of a well-developed residency: Contests. As you surf through your new residency options, you’ll notice a link or button on the homepage, or maybe a topic in the forum bearing the title of “CONTESTS” or “CONTEST PAGE”.
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Contests?? Really??
Yes, really.
These contests vary from trainer of the week, to breeding a bargain bred 2yo for a residency sponsored race. Whatever the frequency of the contests, they are always fun to give a shot at.
Now the residencies have helped us, so how can we help them?
That’s a good question. Next to the link of “List Residencies” there lies a link named “Support”. If you click this link it will list the residencies along with support buttons next to all of the residency information.
If you join a res, one of the procedures is usually to support them, so support the residency you think fits best.
Having said all of that…
Realize that all residencies DO NOT function the same. I have discovered some that are not even directly based on game play, more on real life. And no, I’m sorry to say that not all residencies hold contests. Boo hoo. Such is life.
Also realize that residencies are run by human beings. I’m am not here today preaching to you that residencies are the perfect place to be, they are a perfect experience and they will ultimately change your game play. If the owners of these places don’t always follow their written schedule, give ‘em a break. Their doing the very best they can for you. Quite the contrary. I have the acquaintance of some people that tell me that residencies do not affect their outlook on this game whatsoever. Don’t be surprised if residencies are not your thing.
So after spending 5-10 minutes of your life digesting all of this information, try and put it to use!
**For those of you who are extremely new to this game:
We understand… we’ve all been there.
This is how you get to the residencies:
Log in, and click the link that says “Misc”. At the lower right hand corner of the sub-menu, it will say “Residencies”. Once there, click “List Residencies” and Merry Christmas.
