The URC Belmont Recap

URC Belmont Recap

Well, another exciting Triple Crown series for URC is in the books. It took a great run from Broohar’s young colt in The Ashman to deny a 2nd Triple Crown in the 2 running’s.

As the gates sprung open, it was the same storyline as the 1st 2 legs of the TC. Teejay’s Streets Of Nowhere was going to break out on top and lead the charge through the 1st two furlongs by 2 ½ lengths. He was followed in order by Vetts 3 yr old filly Psychosis and Vett’s Get Off Your Duff. Sitting content in 4th was the 2nd choice in Marmac’s closing Hard Bark. Broohar’s The Ashman sat contently in 5th, loping along. As they got to the 6f marker, Streets Of Nowhere was running his typical headstrong race. His lead had gotten to 5 ½ lengths now and the order didn’t change much. As they neared the top of the stretch, The Ashman was making huge strides on Streets Of Nowhere. Jacklad’s Big Bad Bern was also taking the bit and making up some ground. As they straightened away for home, it became a 2 horse race. Streets Of Nowhere just needed to get the length of the stretch to conclude his enduring campaign. The Ashman was in full flight. Had the 3 race series taken it’s toll on Streets Of Nowhere?  As they came to the 1/8th pole, it was evident that The Ashman was a fresh horse and seemed to be enjoying the marathon distance. He took the lead and surged to the wire a 5 ¼ length victory. Derby and Preakness winner Streets Of Nowhere ran valiantly through the stretch and held on for place. Jacklad’s Big Bad Bern made a nice run late and finished 3rd.

The Ashman ran the 1 ½ race in 2:30 3/5th’s and earned a 102 speed rating for the effort. He has won 3 starts on 4 attempts on dirt. He is sired by Nayef.

Broohar was estatic about the victory stating “I bred this horse for the Derby and thought he would be able to get a bit of ground. I am just happy he’s starting to come into his own and we look forward to a solid 3 yr old campaign.”

Congrats To Teejay for an incredible 2 races and to Broohar for taking home the “Test Of Champions.” It was a great series and the Euro/Usa series starts up next month in the summer heat at the Spa.
