Rut Roh! Dubidubido Upsets Grade 3 Moussac Field
Three graded stakes races in Deauville this weekend. Three upset winners. That’s what happened on the French course this weekend when Dubidubido scored the biggest upset of all three graded stakes winners on Saturday’s card when he powered to a one-length win in the $150,000 Grade 3 Moussac Stakes for 3 year olds at a mile on the firm turf course here. Dubidubido, at 14-1, was the biggest upset winner of all when he came from mid-pack to win the Moussac. Dynawells (6-1) scored a major win in the Grade 1 French Diana, and Tremble Before Me (11-1) hit it big in the Grade 3 Nordic Chemical, just before Dubidubido‘s first-ever graded stakes win Saturday. Although all three were upset winners, Dubidubido and Tremble Before Me nearly set stakes records in their grade 3 stakes wins on an extremely quick Deauville turf course Saturday. Dynawells actually did set a stakes record in her win in the Grade 1 French Diana. Dubidubido broke alertly, but he was caught three wide much of the way down the backstretch in fifth place before rallying late to score in the Moussac. Lawheights was burning it up on the front end in the Grade 3 Moussac, with Go Go Gadget in hot pursuit early. The Irish-bred son of Lawman set some blistering fractions on the front end. Lawheights went 22.68 the first two furlongs and was clocked at 45.58 at the four furlong marker before he started to tire. The fast fractions set the table for a great come-from-behind rally by Dubidubido, a son of Dubawi out of the Green Desert mare Pour On Water. Bad Blake and Ghem Lord put on some pretty massive rallies too, coming from about seventh lengths off the pace at the six furlong marker to get up to grab the second and third spots behind Dubidubido. It was Dubidubido’s third consecutive win, and it was also the first graded stakes win of his career. He’s now won six of seven starts. The colt owned by Ukwoman Stables has a little over $200,000 in his bank. The 111 speed figure that Dubidubido popped was the highest of his career and his second consecutive triple digit speed figure. He popped a 103 in an allowance win in Italy last time out. Dubidubido’s winning time of 1:34 flat was just 1/5 of a second off the Moussac Stakes record set two years ago by Emperors Image, who went on to win the 8 furlong Grade 1 Jean Brat in his next start after winning the Moussac in 2009. Dubidubido paid $30.80, $14.00 and $8.00 across the board. The 5-3 exacta paid $175.40, and the 5-3-6 trifecta paid $949.20.
