Cryin Out Loud Dominates In Breakout Performance

It took Cryin Out Loud a little more than seven months to climb to the top of the mountain.  On October 16, 2010, the scratch-bred son of Storm Cat out of a Seeking the Gold mare broke his maiden going 1 1/8m over Iowa’s ramshackle turf course.  He won an entry level allowance next time out in December, followed by a second level allowance win in January, and an N3x win in February.  On March 12, he won his first stakes race – the G3 Night at the Exbury – before stepping back to listed company for an April 9 win at 1 3/16m.  He arrived in Ireland early this week having won six straight, all but one (the listed Key Quest Turf Route, which came up unusually tough when millionaire G1 winner Stormin Jones drew in) by at least three clear lengths.

If there were any class questions about Cryin Out Loud after his Grade 3 tally and his win over the impressive Stormin Jones, they were laid to rest in Ireland’s G1 Tattersalls Gold.  Cryin Out Loud ($11.20) made a bold move on the far turn and galloped to a 3 ¼ length victory, much the best.

For once, the race unfolded exactly as we expected.  Grip Tight (Montjeu) sped to the early lead and made her own pace for five furlongs.  Jubbly tracked her in second while Cryin Out Loud, away in third from his outside post, sat off that one’s flank.  With about 1000 meters to run, Cryin Out Loud left Jubbly and headed after the tiring pacemaker.  Grip Tight threw in the towel leaving the half-mile pole, putting Cryin Out Loud all alone on the lead.  Jockey P. Jetter was a bit concerned.  “We still had the whole turn and the stretch to run and the boy didn’t have any cover,” stated the experience rider.  “I was afraid he might relax a bit and get caught by a late runner he couldn’t see.  But he had no problems at all.”  Torn Away (Authorized), sent off at 6-1, was last for most of the running but unleashed a big rally to be second, 3 ¼ lengths behind Cryin Out Loud.  I Am Mister Ed was an even third.  Star nine year-old Puppet Regime showed his fans little.

Cryin Out Loud won $300,000 in victory.  The beenskunkd trainee’s career earnings now stand at $507,800.  The speed figure was 104.
