A Spring Steedsation

Comedy Central’s Breed My Steed runners scored the first graded placing of the 2011 edition and saw three additional horses score points last week.

Summer Sensation, trained by Sluggy and bred by Hawkz, placed second in the G3 Unusual Circumstances Juvenile, run at 4.5f on the Kansas dirt course. The Summer Bird filly ran a 71SP in the narrowing three-quarter length loss.  Avid Comedian-watchers might recall that Sluggy bred last year’s Champion Steed Sluggy Trouble.

Taffy trained The Comedian to a second-place finish in an allowance. The Congrats colt, bred by Palatine, led most of the 5.5f turf race to tire and lose by a length, finishing with a 67SP.

The Taffy-bred Makfi colt Arewethewaiting also scored a second place finish. Trained by Npark, the colt closed to place by a length and half over the Newmarket grass course at 5.5f and earned a 59SP.

The final Steed to run was Smoking Body. Trained by Tartar, the Smoke Glacken colt was fourth by just under two lengths at 5.5f in Kentucky to earn a 65SP. Sluggy is the breeder of record.

Of the seventeen Steeds, nine have now run twice, and the rest should be making start two any time now.

With that graded placing, Summer Sensation holds a narrow lead in the points tally over second-place The Comedian.
