Bella Figura Captures Milky Way
Bella Figura was 15 lengths behind what appeared to be a runaway winner before she started her move around the final turn and made up an incredible nine lengths in the stretch to capture the $250,000 Grade II Milky Way Stakes.
The winner paid $8.00 $4.00 $3.20 as she captured her ninth graded stakes win and go over the $1.5 million in earnings for the SgtBones stable.
Favored A Gold City got the early and easy lead she was looking for and looked to be cruising to an easy win, only to be collared at the wire by Bella Figura.
The win moved Bella Figura from a number 11 rating in the classic turf division up to a number 9 rating. Despite losing the heartbreaker, A Gold City actually moved up in the ratings from 4th to 3rd.
It is doubtful that either of the top two fillies will have time to recover in time to run the upcoming Breeders Bowl.
Finishing third was Prospector Villa. She wasn’t quick enough to run with A Gold City, but she showed gameness in holding the show position. The Crafty Prospector filly may be one to watch.
