South African Derby Review

Don’t you love when you are proven wrong! Kepler Techyas won the South African Derby convincingly by over 4 lengths with a 95 speed figure. The song of Mineshaft has now earned $200,000 after his third career victory. In my preview I said that I couldn’t see him being competitive here despite being 3/1. Well it turns out he did want further which I couldn’t see. Now ranked 13th in the Long Turf Division, Kepler Techyas has the major Derbies in his sight for the rest of the year. But this time i’m not doubting him.

Protaras finished in second place coming from midfield to finish 4 1/4 lengths off Kepler Techyas. His 91 speed figure wasn’t nearly enough to win this race. He finished the race off nicely but was no match for Kepler Techyas.

Wall Of Gloom made all the running early but faded badly. He still managed to hold onto third but finished over 7 lengths back. His 89 speed figure was considerably down on his 101 before this at 9.5F. Wall Of Gloom has a bright future at 10 furlongs and could be a force in some decent races.
