Grade I The Good Day recap
Mount Samson shows everyone who is boss!
Light Tripper leads out by a length on Glaring Omission
But they begin to stagger as Mount Samson peels of theirback
From the pack Portman’s Perfect is running on
Mount Samson takes the lead as the post draws and takes the win from Portman’s Perfect who flew home.
Light Tripper and Glaring Omission hit the line together and I think Light Tripper has grabbed third place.
Bjbandit’s Mount Samson stalked the leaders and won by ¾ of a length. This son of Danehill Dancer has now won 11 races and earnings of $3.3 million in his career. The Grade I Good Day victory is now Mount Samson’s third win in his last four starts, all in graded company. Remarkably he has now won his last three starts at Grade I company. The secret I guess is run him in Grade I’s because he will probably keep winning if he can post another 111 speed figure. Mount Samson maintains his #1 ranking in the Turf Classic Division and actually extends his lead in the division. In my preview I said “he is the class runner, and I can’t see anything beating him. Empty the wallet and put it on Mount Samson to win.” If you took my advice I expect some commission because he paid $11.80 for the win. If not I guess you know what to do next time. Can’t wait to see him in a race later in the year like the Cox Plate.
Second placing belonged to former champion Portman’s Perfect from the nijinsky4 barn. He settled nearly 8 lengths off the pace and he did a great job to run ¾ of a length to Mount Samson. It just shows that you can’t give a class animal like Mount Samson a start.
From the tripwire stable, Light Tripper put up a gallant fight, setting a solid pace up front. Finishing in 3rd place, he couldn’t withstand the finishing speed of Mount Samson and Portman’s Perfect but the 108 speed figure wasn’t too bad. His last two starts in G1’s at 10.5f he has been just run down so maybe 10f is the furthest he wants to go.
Congratulations the winner and good luck to the future!
