Spotlight Race of the Week-New Hampshire
Last week, I questioned Tyrone Shoes ability to go a route as he was making his first start going over a mile, still, she was my third selection. She broke her maiden winning by just shy of 2 lengths. 4-1 Most Reliable was my top pick and she took the second spot while my second selection Grande Marina finished third.
Thus, all three of my picks came in. Anyone boxing the exacta collected $25.80 on a two-buck wager. The trifecta rewarded investors with a not shabby $64.70.
Ok, we are looking at an allowance race open to fillies and mares that are 3 years old and non-winners of 2 races lifetime. It will be run on a firm turf course going a rounte of 9.5 furlongs.
1 Seek the Stars 21-1-Grass runner who has gone mile + distances twice and hasn’t yet excelled. In mid-March she finished third going 8.5 furlongs, however, in a field of four. Looks to be outclassed in this race.
2 Appleaway 6-1-Has one route under belt which wasn’t impressive. Speeds lately have been in low 80 range and shows some ability to gain a little ground late. Added distance may be the right key.
3. Absolute Zero 3-1-Kaliber is the game dame for this mare and has bred three stake winners already. This could be another as she has a win and second in last two starts running a mile with speeds of 89 and 90.
4. Flash Portrait 4-1-A nice closer who has been on the board in 5 of 6 starts and brought home purse money in each outing. Nice second in last going 9f with 90 speed. Missed by under 2 lengths in JACA Special (non-graded stakes) in December at 8.5f finishing third. Looks to be in a good spot.
5. Lady Cosmonaut 17-1-Broke maiden in last as heavy 4-5 favorite wiring field by three strides and speed of 79 after 2 ½ month layoff. Top speed to date is an 80 and may be a bit better than the 79 speed and layoff show. Expect a better speed this time out and possible surprise factor.
6. Slew of Kash 13-1-Disclosure time…this is my horse. Has been on board 5 of last 6 but top speed of 82 may not be enough against this group. Able to go distance, but floundered in last after graduating to NW2L level. Looks doubtful.
7. Community Property 5-1-In December, broke maiden with 89 speed going 8.5f. Took rest break, returning in March to disappointing 9th and 80 speed. Tried again late March with forth and speed of 79. May be coming back to quickly for third race in under 2 months.
8. Fanta Four 27-1-Won as huge 19-1 longshot in August with career best speed of 77 going mile distance. Couldn’t find stride in following September race, well off the board going same distance with 57 speed. Has been sidelined since and makes first 2011 start. May need a race or two to get things going again.
9. Seeking a Jet 4-1-Represents Jetman’s barn as well as this bid race. Mare won in final strides in last to break maiden on good turf surface with 85 speed, going 9f with excellent late run. Has two starts on grass, both with mid-80 speeds. Looks to be factor in this race.
10. A Faithful Steward 8-1-Found liking to turf after switching from dirt in November. Won maiden race in January wiring field with career best speed of 84. Best shot looks to be if he can gain lead and hold it.
Tough to go against the oddmakers this time. Absolut Zero has top speeds going and is one to outrun.
Flash Portait has stake win and could find self in winners circle.
Seeking a Jet can’t be ruled out and gets third selection.
