Good afternoon race fans and welcome to Razarback country for the inaugural running of the Born for Greatness Stakes (GI) where we have a full field of 3 y/o hopeful’s vying for GI status Including a few looking to secure a spot on that 1st Saturday in May!. Now let’s breakdown these “pigs” taking the gate today and see if we can determine which of them appear ready to “fly” and earn some moolah in the process. Unfortunately the weather didn’t cooperate as the one thing missing here folks is the mud!.

PP  HORSE                          TRAINER      JOCKEY       ODDS       RANKED    EARNINGS

  (Last 3)

1)   LEGOCITY TED(AUS)     tsyndicate  V Cabaniss      20/1            289          $70,325
       95 – 7th / 85 – 6th / 82 – 13th

(ENCOSTA DE LAGO (AUS) x TWO PUNCH x NIJINSKY’S SECRET) Bred by tsyndicate (8%)

Light grey colt coming off a decent 2 y/o campaign hasn’t shown anything as a 3 y/o which includes poor efforts in 2 GS trys finishing 7th and 13th which sandwiched an ALW run where he finished 6th. This colt which likes to sit just off the pace is way in over his head here. Pedigree also poses class/distance issues. Untested on turf which is still an option but not much to like in this spot. Look elsewhere. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

2)   FLAPPIN’ THE GUMS(CA)   spastic       S Proudfoot    7/1           65        $256,260

      100 – 2nd / 93 – 3rd / 98 – 2nd

(DIXIE CHATTER x HENNY HUGHES x PULPIT)  Bred by spastic (11%)

Heavily raced chestnut colt is another one that sits off the pace. Sole stakes win came in a listed going 8f but thus far has been most effective sprinting….see his last with a big 100 SP which was good enough for a 2nd place finish in a G3 going 7f. Looking to take a huge step forward here going 9f and pedigree raises class/distance issues. Look elsewhere.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

3)   PINK FLAMINGOES(KY)               super22     V Jennings    6/1          64     $278,220

      100 – 4th / 98 – 4th / 96 – 4th

(GHOSTZAPPER x UNBRIDLED’S SONG x DANEHILL) Bred by super22  (15%)

This nice looking light grey colt has been knocking at the door with 3 straight 4th place finishes in GS company his last 3 runs but has failed to hit the board in all 6 career GS attempts. His sole stakes win came in a listed going 8f on good ground as a 2 y/o. Looks to sit off the pace and although his SP’s have steadily increased the results aren’t there yet. Top connections here but this colt may be more effective closing at shorter distances and a turf try also not out of the question should he fail to hit the board here. Quality horse still finding his niche that should get up for a piece of the purse against these.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

4) WARPATH SONG TED(KY)     aurora        TJ Johnson     12/1           134        $92,166

       89 – 13th / 94 – 2nd / 92 – 2nd

(A. P. WARRIOR x UNBRIDLED’S SONG x SHADEED)  Bred by aurora  (8%)

This light grey colt has hit the board in his 2 listed trys but simply hasn’t shown anything in 2 previous GS attemps including LTO in the G3 Tin Man where he finished 12+ back. Midpack runner looking to take a major step forward but class/distance are major question marks here. If  he fails to fire again at this level would prescribe rest and surface switch. Look elsewhere.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

5)   PITCH PERFECT(KY)                    jaipur      P Reich      15/1        290        $50,094

       97 – 3rd / 91 – 2nd / 92 – 1st

(HARLAN’S HOLIDAY x VINDICATION x WILD AGAIN) Bred by bearfan (9%)

This brown colt is coming off a 3rd place finish in his stakes debut, a listed going 8.5f. Depite pedigree which says sprint, this midpack runner has improved while hittng the board in his 3 route trys. Would be a giant step for this interesting colt and believe connections would be thrilled with a GP in this spot which would bode well for this colts future. Would not be shocked to see this one run big and hit the board here.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

6)   CITY STRUCTURE(KY)                foxon         F Cherry      7/1          87        $95,680

      101 – 6th / 95 – 1st / 96 – 2nd

(BIRDSTONE x A.P. INDY x NORTHERN DANCER) Bred by foxon2 (24%)

Interesting brown colt coming off a career best SP of 101 LTO in the quick Rebel Yell G3 where he finished 6th. Has a listed win going 7.5f as a 3 y/o and a GP going a mile back in his 2 y/o campagin. This dead closer will be stretching out to 9f for the first time and the added distance should suit him fine. Most capable and dangerous here!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

7)   INDIAN KETTLES(KY)              malekfarms        S Aaron           11/1        393        $58,840
        99 – 2nd / 90 – 1st / 86 – 6th

(STREET CRY (IRE) x PULPIT x DANZIG)  Bred by malekfarms (16%)

Nice looking chestnut colt has been progressing nicely. Although still eligible for 2x, is looking to leap onto the big stage here. This nicely bred colt lays just off the pace and is coming off a career best 99 SP going 8.5f in a NW3L with a 2nd place finish. First try going 9f was sub par but pedigree says he should get it. Another in here with turf possibilities down the road for this quality colt. Capable of busting out and hitting the board with big time effort.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

8)   UNIVERSAL COLONEL(KY)              stablemate      X Jones     21/1       245        $84,110
       83 – 3rd / 92 – 6th  / 81 – 1st

(COLONEL JOHN x AWESOME AGAIN x FUSAICHI PEGASUS)  Bred by celthumor3 (11%)

This chestnut colt has been alternating sprint/route races throughout his young career and coming off sub par effort LTO in a 6f listed. Lone stakes win was a listed over 6.5f in his first start as a 3 y/o. This colt by 2nd year sire CJ didn’t fare well in his sole GS try with a 6th place finish in the Garden State GI going a mile over the slop.  Having broken his maiden in the slop not sure that was the issue. This will certainly be a big test for this front running colt and whether he can carry that speed 9f at this level. Not likely look elsewhere. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

9)  DECADENTLY(KY)                     sicko              A Arthur  7/2         21     $304,060

     109 – 1st / 101 – 3rd / 89 – 6th

 (A.P. INDY x GONE WEST x THEATRICAL(IRE)) Bred by bpsisking (31%)

This terrific looking brown colt has done little wrong having hit the board in 6 out of 7 career starts including wins in his first 3 and a win LTO in the G3 Rebel Yell where he won convincingly with career best 109 SP! In addition to his G3 victory, he has 2 other GP’s including the GI Garden State mile under his belt where he closed in the mud to finish 3rd. This young stud sits well off the pace and closes like a freight train. Pedigree suggests he should relish the 9f . On  he Derby fringe and hitting the board here should secure a spot in Kentucky. This stand out colt is the one to beat and should leave many here squealing!  +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

10)   SCAN THE MAP(KY)                   jumpmoose      A Fairfield     10/1    82      $136,650

      89 – 6th / 98 – 3rd / 89 – 7th

(ORIENTATE x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY (IRE) x KINGMAMBO) Bred by jumpmoose (13%)

This nice looking brown colt is trying to bounce back from a poor effort LTO over this same distace in the G3 Switchboard. Has a listed stakes win and a good effort with a 3rd place finish in a G3 going a mile to his credit. Another one that likes to sit off the pace. Although 2 of his 3 career wins have come at a mile, 9f may be asking too much of this colt who appears best suited for 7f IMO. Not enough at this distance, look elsewhere.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

11) SUNSHINE SUPERSTAR(IRE)  siriusflit         L Goad    10/1       479    $170,020
       94 – 3rd / 97– 1st / 82 – 13th

(DANEHILL DANCER (IRE) x STORM CAT x A.P. INDY) Bred by siriusflit (16%)

Interesting brown colt making his dirt debut here today. This colt that sits on or just off the pace has a couple of stakes victorys over turf to his name including a G3 during his 2 y/o campaign. Has struggled badly against top competition in 2 prior GI events going a mile with 13th and 11th place finishes in the Futurity and BB Juv. Oddly, his last 2 were his best runs SP wise going 6.5f. Certainly see the merit in trying this lovely bred colt in a dirt route albeit a GI may be a bit ambitious as connections are till searching for his niche. Pedigree alone makes him a threat here but will pass and let him beat me.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

12)  ADJUST THE FUN(KY)        topicount2     A Weldon       10/1        20         $491,840
       97 – 5th / 62 – 13th / 100 – 2nd

(DISTORTED HUMOR x STORM CAT x HISHI AKEBONO)  Bred by topicount2 (14%)

This very nice looking brown colt is coming off an excellent 2 y/o campaign with multiple stakes wins including a G3, and never finishing off the board except for the BB Juv where he finished a most respectable 5th by 2 ½. However, this closer has struggled thus far in his early 3 y/o campaign with poor efforts in the G3 Giant Slayer and G2 Lanes. Certainly battle-tested and most capable with a return to form. Very dangerous in this spot!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

13)   JOHNNY DAMON(KY)                      lakecity        S Lumpkin      18/1    398    $30,180
        92 – 2nd / 93 – 2nd / 77 – 5th

(UNBRIDLED’S SONG x MORE THAN READY x ELA-MANA-MOU(IRE)) Bred by lakecity  (16%)

Lightly raced light grey colt is coming off 2nd place finish in his stakes debut ,a listed going 9.5f. This closer has improved dramacially during his brief 3 y/o campaign. Promising colt is cutting back a bit and still eligible for 1x. Not in the same league as many of these, not yet anyway! Future looks bright for this former Yankee who also has turf options available but will look elsewhere for now.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

14)  KASH FOR RAINY DAY(KY)        kashbarn      I Keever  29/1            540      $79,335

       94 – 6th / 60 – 3rd / 87 – 2nd

(SCAT DADDY x CARSON CITY x SUMMER SQUALL) Bred by roxyken (12%)

This chestnut colt is coming off his best run SP wise LTO in a G3 with a 6th place finish in the Buccaneer Derby going 8.5f. Previously had hit the board in 2 listed stakes trys sprinting. Pedigree would suggest he’s best suited for shorter distances and appears to be way in over his head. This closer type will be severely challanged going 9f here againt many of these. Look elsewhwere.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

My Plays:

$1000 win 9

$50 trifecta box 9 / 12 / 3 / 6

Best of luck to all the connections here and may all of your pigs come back safe and sound.
