Bottom of Form 1
With the year coming to an end we finish off here at COLD brrr and SNOWY brrr New York with the Grade 1 THE BIG APPLE. Highlighting the field is the BREEDER’S BOWL MARATHON winner Coyote Smuggler and runner-up Chase The Sky. The top four in that race reunite here along with the top two finishers Wrisky Cat and Hellhound from the ROCKY TOP DERBY also add into the mix Past Denials winner of the GR SIMSTERS CHAMPIONSIP. Things should get heated up here in the homestretch.
1. Coyote Smuggler a 5yo mare by A.P. INDY and ranked 1st in her division is trained by bluegrass3 from the Hoosier Empire stables. This mare is on a roll with 5 straight Graded wins with the last the BREEDER’S BOWL MARATHON her first attempt against the boys 113 SP. In her last 5 starts she has an avg SP of 106. This mare has been solid the last two years with 16 of her 18 starts ITM with 10 wins. In 31 starts she has won 14 and looking to make it 15 today. Another win today would cap off a solid year and who knows what kinda chatter for year end awards. She will be closing from far back.
2. Stygiophobia a 3yo colt by Unbridled’s Song and trained by lawyerron. In 16 starts he has a record of 4-5-0 and earnings of 499,335. Hard to get optimistic about this one has not proven itself outside the restricted races. Will need to have eaten all the wheaties in New York to pull this one off.
3. Chase The Sky a 6yo by Powerscourt and trained by trotter5. This old boy has a record of 11-5-6 from 32 starts with earnings of 1,543,928. Finished 2nd to Coyote Smuggler in the BB Marathon. Had the lead at the top of the stretch but could not keep up with the winner. This boy has been impressive this year with 7 starts and 6 ITM with 3 wins. Over his last 5 starts has an avg SP of 103. Been awhile since he found the winner’s circle and hopes to rebound today.
4. Wrisky Cat a 6yo by Storm Cat and trained by tcrowell. This 6yo is coming off a win in the G1 Rocky Top Derby with an SP of 106. Been out 47 times with a record of 13-4-7 and earnings of 623,613. His previous 3 starts before the Rocky Top were horrible and hopefully he has found his way to the winner’s circle again. I have a hunch that this cat might be part of the early leaders in here but can he hold off the late chargers?
5. Neck Neck Nose a 5yo by Silver Train and trained by whocares. Coming off a 3rd place finish in the BB Marathon has only 1 win out of his last 8. Will need to keep up with the fast closing Coyote Smuggler to even have a chance in here. In 40 starts he has a record of 6-15-4 and earnings of 1,323,289.
6. Hellhound a 3yo colt by Big Brown and trained by wistful0. This 3yo has a record of 3-5-1 from 17 starts and earnings of 416,996. He is coming off a 2nd place finish in the Rocky Top Derby. Has only 1 win from his previous 8 and will need to make a deal with the devil to win this one. To much class in here today for this young buck.
7. Past Denials a 5yo by Empire Maker and trained by billleex. This 5yo has a record of 7-6-2 from 27 career starts and earnings of 672,175. He is coming off two straight wins with one of them beings the G1 Monster Mash. His last 2 have both been at today’s distance. He should be midpack and making a run at the end but can he hold off the late charge of the Coyote?
8. Thirty Four In Red a 5yo by Empire Maker and trained by michaelo. This 5yo has a record of 13-7-2 from 29 starts and earnings of 1,935,524. Finished 4th in the BB Marathon but was never a threat to the winner. Winless in his last 4 starts this boy will need everything to go perfect for him. Another closer that couldn’t keep up with the Coyote.

Well there you have it the lineup for today’s G1 BIG APPLE. Look for Chase The Sky, Wrisky Cat and Hellhound to contend for the early lead with Coyote Smuggler near the back of the field. The stretch run looks to be exciting with the 5yo mare Coyote Smuggler closing the gap. Well after visiting with the Kentucky Horsemen this past week I’m going to go out on the limb and place my 2 bucks on Coyote Smuggler. She was the buzz of the barns as she goes for her 6th win in a row and her 2nd against the tough boys. My picks for today are the 1-3-7. GOOD LUCK and GOOD RACING!!
