Northern Swain Bucks Odds, Earnings, Wins Sprint Special

Apparently at least a couple of horses weren’t intimidated by the fact that the favorite had won more than twice the money of all the other horses in the race combined.

The first four furlongs or so of the South Dakota Sprint Special ran exactly according to form. Then Northern Swain(IRE), tucked tightly in third, less than a length behind the leader made a move and edged up to first, by a quarter length. Second favorite Sealed Briefing then made his big move, swooping up from fourth to a fast closing second, just a half length behind Northern Swain. The favorite, King Of The Cats, while running second (just off the lead) for most of the race, held on for the show money, just one length from the victor.

The winner, a son of Swain(IRE) (from a With Approval mare), registered his 6th consecutive triple digit speed figure. The slades2 trainee also notched his first stakes win this year (3rd lifetime).
