Classy Canadian Girls – What More Do You Want?
Welcome to Canada where we have an excellent field of exciting girls just ready to show us what they can do and how they can run. In fact this is quite a good field for this GIII. The purse is only $100,000 but don’t let that fool you – there are some classy runners here. I like DEEP for the win here – is stepping up but looks in good form and a definite chance for me.
1 DEEP(JPN) bertaal3 S Bauder 24/1
Having had a very successful run at Allowance racing has progressed to her step up in life to a Stakes race last time out over 10 furlongs which she won impressively with a speed of 104. Is now on a run of 6 wins in a row, is listed at amazing odds of 24/1 on the tote! I know its her debut and I know she has to run faster than 104 but still she is in form and knows how to win. Definite chance in my book.
2 SOCIAL GRACE(FL) bowlady V Luong 6/1
This one has the social grace of a pig after parading before the spectators in the ring prior to the start in her last race only to then let forth a gush of hot air from her rear. Still it seemed to do the trick as she then went out for a win at allowance level over 10 furlongs and a speed of 102. Her trainer will be waiting for that hot air again today if they want a win.
3 WEEKENDS OFF(KY) stormboot V Townsend 9/1
Two wins in a row, both at Stakes level over 10 and 10.5 furlongs has prompted this girl to get another go at Graded level. Her last race at this class was a disappointing 9th across the line and never really got going. Looks very good at allowance and stakes level, not sure if she can step up to this level or not – she looks like she can – maybe she just needs more runs first at Graded. Today is another chance.
4 WINDFURY(KY) lucky7 T Sherr 6/1
Having used to sail a lot both in the bay at Brisbane as well as off shore, I know from first hand experience how much fury the wind has. And this one when she gets going can produce the same amount of force and speed with most recently her run 2 runs ago with a speed of 111 over 9 furlongs in a Stakes race for a 2nd place finish. Was nowhere in her G3 race last time out – needs to do much better here.
5 VAES DOTHRAK(KY) stormborn2 N Linville 8/1
Very much up and down in form, a reasonable result one week and then the next fades and loses the focus and finishes down towards the rear of the field. Which is exactly what she did last time out so going on form, today should be a good run! Which means back her to the hilt at 8/1 odds as she could be a winner here. That said hasn’t been able to really make her place at this level so is also stepping up from her successful run at Stakes level. Chance.
6 BEADY BRAKER(KY) bwarrick T Ceciliani 12/1
Has run succesfully at Allowance level but has failed to impress at Stakes yet even though she did finish 3rd in her last run and closing over 10.5 furlongs. Wants longer and Id keep her at Stakes for now. Not sure if she is ready for this class yet.
7 IRON BEAUTY(KY) ironracing D Conrad 6/1
Straight up with a glance at her past record of her races she is not going to make the distance. Anybody can see that as she really fades in the run to the line. Her trainer though is still opting to run the distance as she has been successful in the past at this range. Who knows on this one. Would still prefer to see her right back at 6 to 7 furlongs and see what happens.
8 OLD BALL AND CHAIN(KY) socko P Dylan 7/1
Big question mark on the distance after struggling to make it at Stakes level in her last 3 races which only brings back the rumour of maybe she is carrying a ball and chain on her sometimes just to raise the odds for her next run. Is that legal? Could go close today as I think even though she is jumping up in class I have heard that all that extra weight is gone and she will be flying. Good odds of 7/1 on the tote but then that was always the point wasnt it? 🙂
9 SLAVE TO AMBITION(KY) gwyneth B Renfroe 6/1
Well this one is dropping down in class after quite a few runs at G1 level including a win back in February of this year. Hasn’t been in form of late including some low speeds of 95. If back in form can win this easily. If not will lose. Simple isnt it?
10 SNATCH(KY) super26 R Toral 8/1
Having recently made the change from Allowance to Stakes, her last 2 stakes races were both good runs improving from a 3rd place finish in her first to a win last time out over 10 furlongs and a speed of 101. Going up again now to graded racing will need to improve her speed again to adjust for the class. Should challenge for a top 3 spot.
11 SUZY’S EMPIRE(KY) snag R Heenan 9/2
5yo mare out of Empire Maker, is coming off a win at Stakes level over the 9.5 furlong range. Did run at a G2 level in her race before that but was unable to run well and in fact faded in the run to the line. Her speeds suggest she can run at this level but has had numerous goes for some results but nothing spectacular yet. Has another chance here now to step up from Stakes.
