Wilted Petals Stakes

From the country shaped like a boot comes the $150,000 G2 Wilted Petal Stakes, a six furlong sprint for year old fillies over a fast dirt track. Extended Power, the top filly in the sprint division, will go off as the even money favorite.

PP Horse             Rank               Trainer                  Jockey           Odds

 1   Dansili Cat       175                 Manni138              S Dotson              5/1

Today will be Dansili Cat’s first attempt at the stakes level. A six time winner from ten starts she’s been on quite a roll after winning her maiden race. Dotson will likely gun her from the gate, as is her running syle, and play catch me if you can. The one thing taht os of a little concern is the speed numbers, with her fastest of a 98, (lto) she will have to improve a little more today to take this.

2   Tissy Gold        258                 Tizgood               C Knauer              11/1

After breaking her madien, Tizgood placed Tissy Gold into the G3 Whiskey Tango (7/09) and was rewarded for their efforts as she won that race, but she hasn’t been back to the winner’s circle since. The speed figs are also a little on the light side for this field as her top sp is only a 90. Knauer will have to try to get the very best out of her today.

3    Many Rules      116                 Bevroniii              Y Lozano              11/1

Many Rules is a dual surface stakes winner, taking six and a half furlong sprints on the turf and dirt. Lozano will be looking to place her on the lead from the start, where she’s been for each of her wins. Yet another in here that will have to improve her speed figs, as her career high is only a 91.

4   Drown The City     8                  Chiolacola            J Jubel                  3/1

Drown The City is back again for another crack at trying to beat Extended Power. A three time stakes winner and G1 and G3 placed, she was last seen finishing sixth in the G3 Victorious Ride, getting under way too late to catch the winner in that one. Ran an eye popping 102 in the G1 Priceless, getting beat by 1 1/2 by Extended Power. With her speed generally in the upper nineties and cracking triple digits, she’ll be giving EP all she can handle today.

5  On The Right Side 44                 Meguire2nd           G Moss               5/1

On The Right Side is another to win stakes on both surfaces, she’s also a multiple graded winner. Her last graded win came in the G3 Miss Stallion, hanging on by a quarter length in front of Drown The City. Since then she’s failed to hit the board in her last three tries. Maybe the turf to dirt angle will wake her up.

6   Blakenship         311                  Danmarko2            C Coker            16/1

Danmarko2 steps Blakenship  up to graded company on the heels of her third place finish in the English T. Challenge. With back to back speed figs in the mid nineties, she’ll have to run the race of her life to beat the top horses here. With the generous odds of 16/1, she may be worth a shot for those playing the triples.

7   Extended Power   1                    Londoner             N  Labreche       Even

The only G1 winner in the field (twice), she’s run her last four races at or over 100 sp (111 highest). Versitle filly has shown she can win from on the pace or from just off. She took the G1 Priceless and G1 Exam in the midst of her seven race win streak. LTO she did finish fourth in the G3 Victorious Ride, but that may have been because she came back to the races too quickly. Lodoner will only have to hope that Labreche has a firm hold on the reins and dosen’t fall off from this fast little filly today, that will be the only way she gets beat today.
