G3 Aaron Burr in Deauville France
The Aaron Burr is a Grade 3 race in Deauville France for all horses 2 years old and up. These horses will be competing for a five and one half furlong race on firm turf. We have 5 horses competing for the majority portion of that $125,000 purse.
1. MR SCHU (KY) 2 year old colt (English Channel X Grand Slam X Storm Cat) Trained by Pauliev, this colt only has one win and it was a mile on dirt. His races on turf have proven tough and have yet to break a 67 speed. That was his best speed and he ran it a mile on dirt and then again on turf going 5 furlongs to finish 3rd. That was also his best finish on turf and I suspect he does better at the shorter distances not out of talent but because they tend to be easier. I am not being mean, I think he should try dirt again he might prove tougher on the main track. He will need to have a good run to win here.
2. COWBOY STREET (KY) 2 year old filly (Cowboy Cal X Street Cry X The Minstrel) This filly is trained by Jdtrot39, and is very talented and consistent. Broke her maiden at first asking going 5.5 on turf and then has 2nd then first in two allowance races. In her last start she won an 8.5 stakes race which begs the question why is she not in a longer race. She won that race easily and with no concern by 2 plus lengths and closing hard. Love to see this filly go long again. If she can post an 80+ speed which she has before she could very easily dominate this field.
3. PIONEER PARK (KY) 2 year old colt (Street Cry X Danzig X Storm Cat) Trained by Socalman, this even money favorite makes me giggle. Having never started on turf the possibilities are endless. The breeding suggest a love of the grass and he shows something I see a lot of the time in horses on the wrong surface. A big speed initially then slowly gets slower. I bet this turf will perk him right up and I would not be surprised at all to see him in the winner’s circle.
4. SPRINKLE (IND) 2 year old colt (Marcus Andronicus X Rock Hard Ten X Storm Cat) This colt is trained by 911, and has only one race over firm turf and 4 starts on off tracks. With his breeding I am guessing this colt will want longer races rather than shorter which is echoed by the fact his best speed of a 75 came at the longest race he has run going 6.5. This shorter race probably will not be a problem for him. I am interested to see what his speed is given that it has been 4 starts since he has seen it. I am guessing a jump of speed figure is in order.
5. TONKAS ROCK (FR) 2 year old filly (Sickly X Sunny’s Climb X Mito) Trained by Lightng100, this filly has also never started over the turf course. She has 6 starts on dirt including a graded attempt. She has been 1st or 2nd in every race but the stakes and the graded try. She has done well in allowances and posted a top speed of 75 twice at 6 furlongs. I am guessing the breeding wouldn’t be objective to turf. I honestly do not know the sires but I know a bit about their lines and what I do recognize I see as turf. A local breed to the region this filly is home and may very well enjoy the change in surfaces.
No picking for babies but the key here will be who handles switching surfaces. Good luck to all.
