NEW MONEY LOOKS THE GOODS IN SURREY

Surrey, the gorgeous county in the south east of London with its’ rolling hills and majestic architecture will this week play host to quality Grade II racing when the annual running of the The Don’s Plastered Cup is run over the stamina testing two mile course. This race is open to all horses three years old and up. The downside of the race is a mere five competitors will assemble, the upside is that we have some quality horses among them. Let’s look at them in more detail.

1 – BAD MAGIC(WA) – rblking – 12/1

(TRAIL CITY x IN THE WINGS(GB) x KINGMAMBO)

T Chump ( 67 – 5 – 7 – 6 – 7% )

This five year old horse was amazingly claimed for just $5000 only four starts back after a close second at Grade II level just two starts prior to that. The good news for trainer rblking was getting such a quality horse so cheap, the bad news has been his lack of results since that time. This son of Trail City was a Grade II and Grade III winner over thirteen and twelve furlongs respectively just seven starts back, however since being claimed he has not even finished remotely close to the winners despite racing in similar races.  Last time out he ran fourth over two miles but was beaten almost forty lengths. We will need to see a return to his bold front running top form to see him in this. Prefer to see here.

2 – NEW MONEY(KY) – lenny30 – 2/1

(MINESHAFT x DANEHILL x FAPPIANO)

R Whisper ( 648 – 169 – 123 – 110 – 26% )

A very classy four year old colt who we tipped in our article at his last start and he didn’t let us down. He has absolutely dominated at his last two outings, both times over two miles with a combined winning margin of over twelve lengths and SP#’s of 106 and 105. He loves to dominate the race from the front and often gets out to huge leads during the race which can be a sight to behold. He has the services of top jockey R Whisper and will take a power of beating again. His turf long rating of 8 has been well earned and I think it may get even closer to #1 here. Classy colt.

3 – GORMENGHAST(IRE) – ceclaim21 – 5/2

(DANEHILL DANCER (IRE) x FAPPIANO x ROBERTO)

R Harzheim ( 593 – 119 – 104 – 94 – 20% )

A super five year old who has won ten of his thirty starts and amassed over one million dollars in prize money the process. He has a turf long ranking of twenty three and has been competing in Allowance events at his last two outings over much shorter trips. The positives to come out of those have been the way he is finishing of his races. He usually settles near to last and runs home with a withering burst of speed. All evidence points towards him running a nice two mile race but he is at very short odds considering his recent races. The engagement of super jockey R Harzeim is a big bonus and trainer ceclaim21 said “We have a horse begging for two miles, a small field and a top jockey, this is a big opportunity for us”. Time will tell if he has the goods.

4 – GIANT WAND(KY) – gr8white – 8/5

(GIANT’S CAUSEWAY (IRE) x A.P. INDY x SEEKING THE GOLD)

B Liddle ( 79 – 2 – 13 – 11 – 3% )

A five year old horse who has won half of his career starts, an amazing thirteen from twenty six. Before his last two outings he had managed to string five wins in a row together including a Grade I win. His form has wavered slightly over his last two starts with two sixths in a row. The huge concern with this guy is that all of his recent form is over distances of a mile or close to a mile especially considering that this weekend’s race is double that distance. He does hold the turf long rank of 147 and is probably better than that suggests. He looks a slight risk at the trip and his recent form isn’t his best. Jockey B Liddle only has a win strike rat of 3% too but trainer gr8white says “we’ve been slowly training him towards a race like this and we aim to surprise a lot of people with his result here” Take him on trust in this one.

5 – WOLFRAM AND HART(KY) – spqr7th – 5/1

(EMPIRE MAKER x RAINBOW QUEST x NORTHERN DANCER)

D Aniel ( 464 – 60 – 69 – 58 – 13% )

A four year old colt who has won seven of his nineteen career starts and is nearing the one million dollars in prize money. He is a regular competitor in graded staying events and very consistent too. He also has the bonus that he races midfield during his races which is almost unique among the five competitors here. He has the savvy services of D Aniel as his jockey too which helps. Trainer spqr7th said “I really think he may have found a nice little race here, a lot of them appear to not really be genuine stayers whereas we’re proven over these trips”  He has the worst turf long ranking in the field of 230 but expect that to improve here. He appears to be each way value at 5/1. A knockout chance.

I’ve gone for 2-5-1-3

Good Luck and good Punting
